The Price of Our Good Name (NY Times - Must be read not to be believed!)
The New York Times ^ | November 23, 2008

Posted on 11/23/2008 6:14:03 AM PST by publius1

Americans have watched in horror as President Bush has trampled on the Bill of Rights and the balance of power. The list of abuses that President-elect Barack Obama must address is long: once again require the government to get warrants to eavesdrop on Americans; undo scores of executive orders and bill-signing statements that have undermined the powers of Congress; strip out the unnecessary invasions of privacy embedded in the Patriot Act; block new F.B.I. investigative guidelines straight out of J. Edgar Hoover’s playbook.

Those are not the only disasters Mr. Obama will inherit. He will have to rescue a drowning economy, restore regulatory sanity to the financial markets and extricate the country from an unnecessary war in Iraq so it can focus on a necessary war in Afghanistan.

Even with all those demands, there is one thing Mr. Obama must do quickly to begin to repair this nation’s image and restore its self-respect: announce a plan for closing Mr. Bush’s outlaw prison at Guantánamo Bay.

Look at these phrases:

"trampled on the Bill of Rights"

"eavesdrop on Americans"

"undermined the powers of Congress"

"unnecessary invasions of privacy"

"straight out of J. Edgar Hoover’s playbook"

"drowning economy"

"regulatory sanity to the financial markets"

"unnecessary war in Iraq"

"outlaw prison at Guantánamo Bay"

-- and this is only part! These guys don't live on my planet!

Good bye slimes writers—have a nice trip down the toilet with the other turds who belong in the sewer after lying to the American public for so long.

Timothy McVeigh was an idiot. He could have been a national hero and done the country some good bombing the NYT building...with no one there of course. According to Ayers, it’s not terrorism if you target a building and not people.

The Price of Our Good Name?

I'm going to say $45 per share since the NYT is down that much since its 2002 high. LOLOLOL.

News Corp, btw, is up a buck and a half since 2002.

Not dealing with this treasonous rag straight away was one of the greatest mistakes of the administration.

Never thought of that. He would have gotten off if no one was hurt. Then he could have done the talk circuit, like ayers.

Agree with you.

Just heard, the Cleveland Plain Dealer is laying off 50 of its writers...and they have already deeply cut benefits.

This article, better than any I have ever read in the NYT, states the deep philosophical differences between myself and the NYT. The headline itself is very telling. NYT states that we need to do these things to clear the good name of the US. BS!!!! We need to do whatever it takes to make our citizens safe.

Does anybody have an example of an American citizen whose rights were trampled?

I vaguely recall on O'Reilly's show a segment on an American who was under surveilance and went through a week or so of detention because of some alleged terrorist event. It turns out he was out of the country at the time of the event and was awarded $1M. I think O'Reilly, who was mad about the size of the payout, said something to the effect of, "Throw me in jail for a week or two and give me $1M!" (No snide remarks, please.)

Looks like a temper tantrum in the AIDS-ridden bath-house commonly known as the Slimes editorial room. Maybe the anti-viral cocktail quit working and the bugs have reached their brains.

This editorial could use a good fisking, but the NYT is such a joke these days that it doesn’t seem worth the effort.
