A security assessment drawn up Israeli defence chiefs calls for contingency plans to be drawn up for military action against Iran, the Haaretz daily reported on Sunday.

The assessment, to be presented to ministers next month as part of the National Security Council's annual review, also calls for Israel to prevent new Palestinian elections at all costs, even at the expense of a row with its US ally, the paper said.

Defence chiefs put "Iran's threat to Israel's survival" at the top of the list of challenges they face, followed by the "strategic threat" of long-range missiles and rockets from various countries in the region.

Contigency plan?

They should be practising every day. Preferably on a target laid out just like the Iranian facility. If any lesson's to be learned from this sorry delay, it's strike early and strike hard.

If Israel does not do something before January 19, it's all over for her. In my opinion. YMMV.

Their assessment also recommends close cooperation with the United States to prevent a deal between Washington and Tehran that would undermine Israeli interests...

Washington is installing an advanced radar system in Israel to boost defences against any ballistic missile threat from Iran. It will go operational in mid-December, army radio reported on Saturday.

I’ll say it, Israel, absolutly let the Palistinians conduct thier elections, but firs notify the PA that if rocket attacks or other corrupt war mongering to destroy the state of Israel comes from thier side of the fence, Israel will retalliate!!
Palestine you want real peace, kick the troublemakers out of your lands. “No Jew I ever heard of will deny any peacefull arab the right to work, and do well at it!”

Palestine, you can have a state too, all you got to do is play by the rules.
#1 Get rid of the occupation of forigen entities that have no intrest in your future.
#2 see #1
I pray for the Palistinians, thiey have been the whiping boys of the Arab world for far too long. an excuse to make war with thier neighbor Israel.

If Israel doesn’t take out the Iranian nuke facilities, they had better start digging graves.

We have an election under way and there is no PM, just Olmert who is a walking corpse. Chances of any action before Feb. 10 are remote. There is no sense of panic in Israel. When we do it, we’ll do it right. The Iranians hanged a guy yesterday they said was a spy for Israel. I’m not sure this guy was a spy but I am sure we have people on the inside.

The notion of withdrawing from the Golan Heights isn't practical advice... who advanced the notion the Syrians, who are tight with Iran and Hezbollah, can be detached from them? The Golan are the eyes of the State Of Israel as well as its key water resource. If its gone, defending the Galilee without the mountainous escarpment becomes nearly impossible. It will be an election issue for sure and Israel must retain the Golan and ensure Jerusalem remains an undivided city under her sovereignty. And then there's Iran's nuclear threat...
