WASHINGTON Rep. Henry Waxman a liberal ally of Speaker Nancy Pelosi has wrested the chairmanship of the powerful House Energy and Commerce Committee from veteran Rep. John Dingell when the new Congress convenes in January.
Waxman, a California liberal and avid environmentalist and booster of health care programs, toppled Dingell Thursday on a vote of 137-122 in the Democratic Party caucus, capping a bitter fight within party ranks.
Dingell has been the top Democrat on the panel for 28 years and is an old-school supporter of the auto industry. Waxman has complained that the committee has been too slow to address environmental issues like global warming.

—didn’t see it on the other threads on this, but Dingell was a reasonably pro-firearms voice-—”Nostrils” Waxman is viciously anti-gun—
Nostrildamous Rules!
Nose hairs found all over Capitol.
He could park the auto industry in his nose.........geez.
Get ready for banning of lead ammo, gun ranges classified as toxic waste sites, and a host of other infringements.
OY VEY! He’s a Jewish porker!
WON BY A NOSE
Yep going from bad to worse. In fact about as bad as you can get. There are not enough adjectives to describe Waxman.
“on a vote of 137-122”
Yup! Just barely nosed him out!
the good news is that there will be smaller bailouts as the market for environmental products is much smaller than the auto industry.
Now things are really getting ugly!
Rep. Waxman new head of House Energy and Commerce Committee
**********************************EXCERPT**********************
The 137 to 122 vote by Democratic lawmakers on Thursday marks a significant shift in congressional leadership, and opens the door to stronger environmental standards for the auto industry. Dingell, a staunch supporter of the U.S. auto industry, has successfully blocked tighter regulations for carbon emmission standards. End of Story
What an ugly mug. He should wear a bag over his head.
Ugly is Waxman!
Infighting within the party?
It bodes an ill wind for 2 years for us, BUT, it means we need to have the RIGHT candidates in place for another revolution.
My post was meant in jest. :)
Great choice, but pooh is still pooh.
America will get quickly very tired of these maroons. Like I said to my son," They have controlled the house and Senate for 2 years and what have they accomplished for a national energy policy?"
Bumpkiss. A 9% approval rating?
No reason to expect anything different.
Any policy that does not call for NEW nuclear power plants in every state, drilling offshore and in Alaska, natural gas terminals in Florida and California,as well as their "green" wind power initiatives, will simply be more blivovating. Take away your SUV Allegra. YOU get a camel!
At least it will be able to spit on WAXMAN if he should ever visit. Thats a plus!
