Oswald co-worker no longer silent about JFK assassination role

01:56 AM CST on Sunday, November 16, 2008

By HUGH AYNESWORTH / Special Contributor to The Dallas Morning News

LEWISVILLE – Buell Frazier wants to tell it like it is – or was – on a very important day in U.S. history 45 years ago in Dallas.

The quiet, thoughtful man of 64 is not as well-known as some of the others who skyrocketed to fame or infamy in November 1963. But Mr. Frazier played a defining, if unintentional, role in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

He drove Lee Harvey Oswald to work that fateful Nov. 22.

And the Warren Commission, the investigative committee appointed to explain all aspects of Mr. Kennedy's death, claimed that Oswald carried his cheap mail-order rifle to work with him in Mr. Frazier's car.

That put Mr. Frazier in the spotlight immediately after Oswald was captured – and long afterward as a mourning nation sought to find an explanation to the tragedy.

With but a few exceptions, he has kept almost 4 ½ decades of angst, frustration, fear and occasionally even fury bottled up.

All Mr. Frazier did was offer a friendly gesture to a man he hardly knew.

In mid-September 1963, Mr. Frazier, 19, moved to Irving to live with his sister, Linnie Mae Randle, her husband and three children.

He slept on his sister's couch, drove a clunker Chevy and was pleased to be earning $1.25 an hour, then the minimum wage, at the Texas School Book Depository.

As a teenager in Huntsville, Mr. Frazier had deftly ...

Anyone who has shot firearms for a reasonable amount of time knows that Oswald killed Kennedy. The people who watch too much hollywood don’t have a clue.

The nutcases start with a suspect and then never let go.

Excellent posts are Bill’s here.

Just for the others here, it does seem that even Jack Ruby was at a prior press conference and corrected Sherrif Wade about Lee Harvey Oswald being in the “Fair Play for Cuba” group on Thursday night, November 22nd the day of the assassination! That raises questions about how Ruby knew that and what happened on that following Sunday when Ruby did gun down LHO.

Wikipedia reads:

“In addition, WFAA-TV (Dallas) and NBC newsreel footage show Ruby impersonating a newspaper reporter during a press conference, at Dallas Police Headquarters, on the night of the assassination. At the press conference, District Attorney Henry Wade said that Lee Oswald was a member of the anti-Castro Free Cuba Committee. Ruby corrected Wade by stating that it was the pro-Castro Fair Play for Cuba Committee.” - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Ruby#JFK

I mean both Oswald and Ruby's movements, but especially Ruby's. It was a set of unrelated and unpredicable events that put him where he was when he was.

And Oswald's transfer was planned and announced at a certain time, but it didn't happen. It was delayed. The last delay caused by Oswald himself. Nobody could have anticipated that.

Yet the evidence is that Ruby had just walked in seconds before Oswald came out the door. If Ruby had been relying on even inside information, he would have been there much earlier. It simply wasn't possible to have been pre-planned.

From the Wall Street Journal
NOVEMBER 24, 2007

Oswald was a dedicated communist who had defected to the Soviet Union in 1959 out of disgust with American capitalism. After becoming disillusioned with Soviet life, he returned to the U.S. in 1962. In early 1963, he bought a scoped rifle through the mail and soon used it to fire a shot (which missed) at retired general Edwin Walker, the head of the John Birch Society in Dallas. In the summer of 1963, Oswald was active in street demonstrations in support of Castro. In September 1963, he visited the Soviet and Cuban embassies in Mexico City seeking a travel visa that would allow him to travel to Cuba.

Oswald was among the radicals of the time who saw Third World revolutionaries like Castro as the wave of the communist future. He was well aware of Kennedy's efforts to overthrow Castro's regime. As a Senate investigative committee suggested in 1975, Oswald shot Kennedy to interrupt his administration's plans to assassinate Castro or to overthrow his regime in Cuba.

Ignoring Oswald's communist links, journalists and political leaders quickly claimed the president was a martyr to civil rights. Earl Warren said that Kennedy had "suffered martyrdom as a result of the hatred and bitterness that has been injected into the life of our nation by bigots." Martin Luther King said the assassination had to be viewed against the backdrop of violence against civil rights marchers in the South. James Reston wrote in the New York Times that "something in the nation itself, some strain of madness and violence, had destroyed the highest symbol of law and order."

The consensus opinion was that Kennedy was a victim of hate and bigotry, a casualty of his support for civil rights. The Cold War and Kennedy's ongoing feud with Castro were rarely mentioned as factors behind the assassination. The reasons? Mrs. Kennedy wanted her husband remembered as a modern-day Abraham Lincoln. Lyndon Johnson feared complicating relations with the Soviet Union. Liberals feared a replay of the McCarthy period, when the Wisconsin senator inflamed public opinion about fears of domestic communism.

"That raises questions about how Ruby knew that and what happened on that following Sunday when Ruby did gun down LHO."

Ruby was a police groupie. He was frequently at police headquarters and well known. He loved being around cops and wanted to be liked by them. He wasn't pretending to be a reporter. Many of the officers there knew who he was.

He knew the correct terminology because he'd been obsessed by the killing since it happened. He read or saw the news reports. He thought of nothing else. It threw his whole state of mind.

Actually, there are news reporters who witnessed Ruby waiting about the building on the outside that day.

Please note first paragraph if this link works: Ruby lurked and waited for Oswald.

http://books.google.com/books?id=qMIDrggs8TsC&pg=PA392&lpg=PA392&dq=ruby+waited+on+oswald&source=web&ots=techVYCqB7&sig=R_IgE7P09xgJNn0eWiGxTs7Sobs&hl=en&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=5&ct=result

There is much more, I think Ruby actually talked with a news worker in the street that day in regards to when Oswald was being transferred or something like that. I read it some time ago but the info is out there.

"Actually, there are news reporters who witnessed Ruby waiting about the building on the outside that day."

That paragraph is an unsupported assertion, and it contains other misleading information.

Oswald was supposed to be transferred at 10:00. Ruby had gone downtown to wire money to one of his strippers at 11:17. Within five minutes after that he had shot Oswald.

He wasn't waiting outside. He would have gotten there too late if Oswald had been transferred as planned. He would have been too late if Oswald himself had not delayed to get his sweater.

“Like McVeigh, Oswald was afflicted with a profoundly righteous egomaniacal certitude.”

I agree on most of what you wrote. I think the communist thing was an attempt to make himself standout and be different (ie: get attention). I read a book about Oswald and Marina many years ago which probably shed more light on his personality than anything I have ever read. He was quite the momma’s boy who constantly told him he was superior to others and that it wasn’t his fault he didn’t succeed in anything. I’m not so sure he was so much full of egomaniacal certitude as he was desperate to get attention for being someone special. I think you described McVeigh perfectly, however.

“Sunday, 7:30-8:00 AM WALKER, Ira, WBAP-TV (Dallas TV station), employee: First statement: Ruby stuck his head in truck window and asked “Have they brought him down yet?”12/4/63 (21 H 715) Later in WC testimony 4/15/64 changed time to 10:30 A.M. (13 H 294-96) Testified for prosecution in Ruby’s trial: time was 10:30. THE TRIAL OF JACK RUBY. Kaplan/Waltz p. 245-7.”

http://karws.gso.uri.edu/JFK/Issues_and_evidence/Jack_Ruby/Timeline_of_Ruby.html

The whole link shows how much time Ruby was spending at the DPD over those 3 or 4 days including on the day of the JFK assassination, being at Parkland Hospital and then, as early as 4:30 it looks like, going to the DPD.

I only look at all the facts, it does appear some Jewish man took out an anti-JFK ad in a Dallas newspaper around the time of the president’s visit. So, I read one link, that Ruby was afraid the assassination of the President might look to some people like the Jews had done it.

Still, easy to plug in either Ruby or Oswald being crackpots.

It’s also easy to just say, well Ruby had all these friends in the Dallas Police Department and that was why he was spending so much time there too. Maybe...he obviously did have some and some of them came to his nightclub on occassion it seems. But he did ask that news worker if they’d brought Oswald out yet.

Too, with all of the running around Ruby was doing, I’m not sure if there were already so many reports on what Cuba committee Oswald was on and that Ruby could go as far as to correct the District Attorney Wade on that fact at the midnight news conference from what I can tell.

One thing I wonder about Oswald though, is he did have children. A lot of the loner stuff I wonder about when he seems to have been a relatively faithful family man.

“Anyone who seriously believes the average American citizen knows this about Oswald is an idiot. You think the young people of today are aware of it? Not a chance. And even if they’ve heard ‘something’ of it, their left-wing teacher no doubt would have ‘informed’ them that it is just another wacky conspiracy theory of the lunatic right. They do this sort of thing with everything involving the communist movement.”

National Public Radio (NPR)has lead the pack in drip feeding and romanticizing Communism to the American public.

Oswald’s commie background is pretty much common knowledge and well reported on; no conspiracy here, but Wiki for a reference? I think not.

Common knowledge, well reported on, your *zz! You think the current generation knows anything about it? The left-wing media and educational institutions have slanted the h*ll out of this story to make it 'appear' as if Oswald was some kind of far right nut case. As for the wiki article, if you bothered to check, it was very well referenced. Besides, I posted a followup from the Wall Street Journal. Here it is again. Read in particular the portions I outlined in bold.

It's no wonder we're getting our butts handed to us in these elections. I sometimes think we have more Useful Idiots on our side than they do on theirs! Assuming everyone knows stuff like this is way beyond stupid and very much appreciated by the far left.

(did you know there was a witness who said JACK RUBY was in the theater when Oswald was arrested?).

There’s a credible witness (newspaper reporter) who said that Jack Ruby was at Parkland, the orderly who found CE399 (magic bullet) said he found the bullet on a stretcher NOT connected to the case....

****************

I did not know that. To me, the tipoff that something wasn't quite right was when Ruby killed Oswald. No explanation has ever seemed to fit.

Who benefited from Kennedy's death? Certainly Johnson did.
