World leaders dine in style as they discuss financial crisis (Bon Appetit, Peasants!)

(CNN) – The global economy may be undergoing a significant downturn, but the White House’s dinner budget still appears flush with cash.

After all, world leaders who are in town to discuss the economic crisis are set to dine in style Friday night while sipping wine listed at nearly $500 a bottle.

According to the White House, tonight’s dinner to kick off the G-20 summit includes such dishes as “Fruitwood-smoked Quail,” “Thyme-roasted Rack of Lamb,” and “Tomato, Fennel and Eggplant Fondue Chanterelle Jus.”

To wash it all down, world leaders will be served Shafer Cabernet “Hillside Select” 2003, a wine that sells at $499 on Wine.com.

The exceedingly pricey wine may seem a bit peculiar given leaders are in Washington to discuss a possible world financial meltdown, but Sally McDonough, a spokeswoman for Laura Bush, said it “was the most appropriate wine that we had in the White House wine cellar for such a gathering.

McDonough also said the White House purchased the wine at a “significantly lower price” than what it is listed at.

“Of course the White House gets its wine at wholesale prices,” she said. “Given the intimate size of the group, it was an appropriate time for The White House to use this stock.”

The word REVOLUTION is starting to make more sense as the days go on. Our current crop of leaders, both financially and politically, are morally and ethically challenged, to put it lightly.

Why not?

For the rest of us, if we lack bread, we shall merely “eat cake”.

No problem.

Given its CNN and they hate America and hate Bush, it should read;

Sounds like American wines whine.

I don’t see why this is any different from the scum at AIG taking their expensive “offsite conferences” at some spa, as they did recently, just after they were bailed out with our tax money. Everyone was in an uproar about it, and rightly so.

Expect more of this. This is what one world government is all about: you get to live marginally above poverty as they get to dine on duck and fine wine.

Not a bad price if you get the party barrel of it for that price.

I searched wine.com and they didn't have any, so I don't know where the $499 price came from.

Empty the wine cellar and tear the O's off the keyboards when you leave.

Wine, 2003.

President Bush was sworn in as President on January 20, 2001, so the wine didn’t just happen to be setting in the wine cellar when he arrived.

We thawed 3 nice rainbow trout we caught on the San Juan river below the Navajo Lake Dam in NM a while back and grilled em today. A little lemon, home brewed beer & sun tea, fried zucchini & parsnips, green beans and sourdough bread with garlic butter. Chased that with a bowl of hot apple cobbler and a dollop of homemade vanilla ice cream.

No polidiots were invited.....
