Walter Reed-Week 187, Ending Veteran's Day Week

Walter Reed - Week 187, November 14, 2008, Veteran’s Day Week

A misty, damp, but mild and quiet evening at the front gates of Walter Reed.

A fitting way to end Veteran’s Day week observances. Many, as I did, visited the World War II Memorial, the Vietnam Memorial, the Iwo Jima Memorial and the Air Force Memorial, which overlooks the just dedicated Pentagon Memorial commemorating those who were lost there during the terrorist attack on September 11.

But Friday night found us again at the front gates of Walter Reed honoring our service men and women, and supporting the wounded warriors and their families.

This evening as always, many drivers gave honks of support as they passed.

However, this evening, two large bus type ambulances carrying wounded who had just arrived at Andrews, roared down Georgia Ave with sirens and lights blazing and through the front gates of Walter Reed to receive the finest medical treatment available. God bless those soldiers and their families. And also the doctors and nurses who perform tirelessly on their behalf.

It is a key reminder why we man all four corners. There is no way Code Pink and other wackos will ever return to the front gates with their hateful signs and words.

Making an appearance was Biker Steve. He despises moonbats and is always opinionated. Tonight he wanted to discuss how Tom Ridge would have been the better VP candidate. He ran into some significant disagreement. Anyway he’s fun.

The bus made an expected early appearance and the snapshot below was taken quickly and its quality isn't up to our usual high standards.

PleaDeal and Cindy True Supporter made certain we had good pizza. The rest of us made sure that none of it went to waste.

We are always looking for troop supporters to stop by and visit. Parking is free right across from Walter Reed’s front gate.

NEWS FROM THE FRONT GATE

If you can't get to D.C. to join us but would like to do something for the wounded, you can find a wealth of ideas by FReepmailing Tom the Redhunter, Cindy-True-Supporter, VAFlagwaver, or PleaDeal.

A Big Thank You to all FReepers who transport and store our many signs and banners every week.

Come join us every Friday night between the hours of 6:30pm to approx 9:30pm.

* Thank you to BufordP for maintaining the BIG LIST of all Walter Reed FReeps.

SWEEEEET AAR - Thanks to all for standing out at WR. Hopefully the bus will come early on those freezing cold winter days this winter.

You know what "Legs"? I've reached the conclusion that JVB's square jaw does more for my heart rate than your beautiful legs. Sorry.

Thanks for all who turned out in the mist for our heros.

SWEET!

I think it’s the cap the Marine Corp recruiter gave me when The Chapter stopped by with pizza two years ago.

There are Friday evenings when you say to yourself, “I’d really rather just veg out or take my wife to dinner.” But you know that you can’t because you promised yourself that “you would not tire, you would not falter.” So you stand on the corner. Your legs get tired. Your feet get sore. Finally, the bus that has taken our heros and their families out to dinner comes back. Everyone on the bus that can is up and waving. The driver toots his horn and rolls through the gate.

You’re glad you came.

I know. All you guys and gals are heros to me, I don’t care what you say. It takes so much time out of your lives, and on a Friday night to boot. I’m reminded of a good Biblical word: Steadfast. Thank you.

LOL - jeez, FReeper women are fickled. I guess I'll have to make a run for your affection when it gets warm again, when I can show off my legs again. OR I could un-square JVB's jaw, but I'll probably end up pushing up daisies.

At least I no longer have the stress of keeping my legs in shape. :-))

Hey RockerMom - My dynasty is over. See WVNan's Post No. 7 Any sympathy??

Oh no, your dynasty is over (for now), whatever will you do? Sympathy- hmmm, let me think that one over. You pick on me quite a bit, so I will have to sleep on it and let you know tomorrow!

Dynasty over? Not necessarily. I think I have the solution. You can have my summers, but JVB gets the winter season.

Good deal, thanks.

The ‘legs’ say: See you in the summer.
