Nightmare on Constitution Avenue
The Wall Street Journal Opinion Journal ^ | November 14, 2008 | John Fund

Posted on 11/15/2008 4:34:33 AM PST by jhroberts

With news that Democratic candidate Mark Begich has taken the lead from incumbent GOP Senator Ted Stevens in Alaska's Senate race, Republicans are beginning to visualize a nightmare scenario in which Democrats actually reach the goal of 60 Senate seats that would allow them to stop any GOP filibuster.

The basic problem is that no office holder is willing to take one for the team. Case in point -- Ted Stevens. The guy was 84 years old before he decided to run again for office. Then came the felony charges. At some point did it ever occur to the guy - I need to do what's right for the Republican party and for the cause of conservatism. The cause is bigger than any one person and if Republican office holders don't realize this then it will be a long time before the party ever comes to power. I do not think that the conservatives have ever come to power because when the Republicans got the majority they didn't act like conservatives. It was just spend, spend, spend, and let's see how many goodies I can pour back into my district/state so I can get re-elected. It's going to take the political equivalent of Leonidas and the 300 Spartans to get something done for the conservative cause because these sad-sack ego-driven ass-clowns in Congress in both parties are not going to do anything other than continue to bankrupt the country. And now to make matters worse we will have an enabler in the White House who will help all these congressional grifters totally ruin the country for our children and grandchildren.

Well, as I wrote on our sister site:

Well there is some upside.

Let the Democrats have their way. Let them have no excuses.

Also let the voters have a full taste of what they chose.

If the voters still want what they are about to get in 2 years then it doesn’t matter anyway. It is over for all of us. Tyranny of the masses will be in full swing at the expense of the individual and it will have to take its natural course to the bloody end.

True, you’ve got Dodd saying about the auto bailout...it’s the Republicans fault. To which I say, good for the Republicans, but his tactic is to really give cover to some Democrats who don’t want to vote for it (but don’t want to upset the Dem applecart, i.e. union favors.) So he can claim it’s the Republicans, but with a filibuster proof majority, nobody to blame but the Dems, period.

The Dems need a "trial balance" so they know how many votes they need to manufacture.

The difference is that machines count the election day count.

With recounts everything gets scrutinized by eyeball. From signatures to hanging chads... Anything to disqualify your opponents votes and anything to count votes for yourself... The rule ought to be that if the machine won't count it, it doesn't count. If the voter (I was going to say citizen... But we know that isn't true...) isn't bright enough to properly mark his/her vote too bad.

I'm in full agreement at this point with letting the rats go all out. Let people see what they truly stand for when nothing is in the way to stop them. No more excuses. The lies will then become exposed, no matter what the presstitutes say. Two years from now they'll be swept out of office. 2010 will make 1994 look like a whimper.

I really, really, really hope that about once every 2 weeks, a bright, new shining conservative star like Sarah Palin, Bobby Jindal, Michael Steele, ... pops up after some outrageous Democrat stunt and says

“Is the change they promised you? Is this the change you wanted?”

That explains it, but there should NOT be TWO ways of counting votes! They should CHECK the FIRST VOTES that CAREFULLY!

They do that only if it is disputed.

The basic problem is that no office holder is willing to take one for the team....

Pretty much human nature, irrespective of political conviction. For example Clarence Thomas is sitting where he is today because Thurgood Marshall refused to step when Democrats controlled the selection process despite repeated pleas from friends and allies pointing out that if he did so the "Black Seat" on the Supreme Court would remain in liberal hands.

In the case of senators and congressmen, both the individual and their party are often unwilling to see them leave office because of loss of seniority and the attendant loss of legislative power. There have been examples in both parties of aged individuals widely believed even by members of their own party to be mentally incompetent remaining in office - or even successfully running for reelection - for such reasons.

Are we being "ACORNED" in all of these counts, recounts, and run-offs?

I wouldn't put it past "win-at-all-costs" (or, to quote one of Hussein's idols, Malcolm X, "By ANY means necessary") scumbag demonRATS, and roll-over-and-play-dead wimp-ass repubs for this to be the reality.

There is a reason, during a revolution that the rebels take over the radio, TV and news media....the liberals have already done that and the people will never have the unvarnished truth exposed. The Dem's will impose a “balanced radio” regulation and conservative radio will be emasculated.
Rush was a good part of the reason in 1994, he (and others) will be stifled starting in the 2009. .. I hope I am wrong.

Do yall think Obama will offer McCain a choice cabinet job in order to reduce our republican numbers in the senate?

That is what it is beginning to smell like to me.

He may be P’Oed that he had to pick Palin. He has not defended her all that well.

Plus, it would secure our minority status.

BTW, who is a conservative and viable in Arizona? McCain’s term is up in 2010.
