Massive Wildfire Flares up in Sylmar

SYLMAR, Calif. (KFSN) -- A wildfire burning in the foothills north of Sylmar was reported at 10:30 p.m. Friday night.

The fire quickly flared up and burned several hillsides north of where the 118 and 210 freeways intersect at the base of the Angeles National Forest, just above Veterans Memorial County Park.

The fire reportedly has burned approximately 100 acres. At least three homes were burned in the fire...

This thing went FAST. I live in Simi and our town had burning last month. This thing had to be intentionally set. It started as a fire on a hillside along the freeway at 1031pm last night. Everytime we get these firestorms, I say it again, there needs to be a death penalty for arson, period.

The "mobile home park" characterization is misleading in that the homes are not what are traditionally considered mobile homes.

Pray for those who lost their lives (I know of one 98 year old already) and those who lost everything. This is horrible that seems to happen pretty often. Between fires in California and those hurricanes, I think it might be time to consider not building in both these areas....just a thought that I am such will be disagreed by some.

Obama will raise his arms and speak in a magisterial voice, cowing those fires into submission. They're BUSH'S fault, after all.

Prayers for the homeless. I hope there's still a lake left that doesn't contain non-native sucker fish so the bombers can fill up. (I've always wondered about CA...why don't they use seawater? Will it endanger the sea or something?)
