Constitutional crisis looming over Obama's birth location

The California secretary of state should refuse to allow the state's 55 Electoral College votes to be cast in the 2008 presidential election until President-elect Barack Obama verifies his eligibility to hold the office, alleges a California court petition filed on behalf of former presidential candidate Alan Keyes and others.

The legal action today is just the latest is a series of challenges, some of which have gone as high as the U.S. Supreme Court, over the issue of Obama's status as a "natural-born citizen," a requirement set by the U.S. Constitution.

WND senior reporter Jerome Corsi even traveled to Kenya and Hawaii prior to the election to investigate issues surrounding Obama's birth. But his research and discoveries only raised more questions.

The biggest question is why Obama, if a Hawaii birth certificate exists, simply hasn't ordered it made available to settle the rumors.

“From what I’ve read it sounds like there are suits coming up in at least 10 states now.”

It would be nice if those would be the states with the most electoral votes.

It reminds me of the Schiavo saga when all the elected officials were deluged with mail and it became a huge story! We lost that one, but maybe we’ll get this 0ne!

God help us if they do not take on the case. That is the end of our free republic, in more ways than one.

Over the past year of following Obama you can find snipits of truth when least expecting it.

I don’t know who was interviewing or when the interview was, or where I saw the interview, but I remember the interviewer asking him about his birth certificat. He said that he had never seen it. The interviewer sounded incredulous about it. He said, he had never seen the long form birth certificate and when asked why not Obama said I guess I just afraid that it might show that I was illegitimate and I didn’t want to know that.
There was also something either in his book about his father coming to Haiwaii to give up his rights and allow the grandparents to adopt him, this was never carried any further - if they did adopt him that changes everything.

He has a way of telling the truth once in awhile amid all of the evasions. Based on the fact that he has used 3 different names in his life Obama, Soetero, Dunham. Why Dunham?

1. Let’s say he was born in Kenya, and was illegitmate. He would have been a citizen but not natural born citizen regardless of whether the Obama Sr was named on the birth certificat. Obama would be a naturalized citizen at birth based on immigration law of that year.

2. At that point he would have always been a naturalized citizen regardless of what happened in Indonesia.

The other option was for him to have been born in Haiwaii and has always been a citizen and was never adopted in Indonesia. Regardless of who his father was or whether his parents were married. I can’t see the advantage if this is the case for Obama not to release his orginal birth certificate.

There is one other option that I haven’t heard about. When a child is adopted they assume all of the rights of their adopted parents. It would not matter where he was born then, his original birth certificate would have been replaced with his adoption birth certificate. His grandparents would show up as the parents and he would be a natural born citizen.

The fact that the Dems tried to slip language permitting a naturalized citizen to be President into another resolution of theirs

I hadn't heard about that little snippet. Who did this? When?

I believe the Court has passed on some because of technical points, protocol, etc. If they do rule on this, and let it go, we will become a nation ruled by men, not laws. And yes, there will be riots and bloodshed which will be quelled by the imposition of martial law. After a time it will be ‘quiet’, but sporadic outbursts will go on. Hard to imagine. I sound like some prophet of doom, but we are facing reality here, it’s not pretty: we’re 30 years too late fighting the indoctrination of 2 generations of Marxism in the education establishment, we did fight but not enough , and the game was fixed against us to start with. I think the Court will decide against BOhica, and for The People. Pray.

Believe it or not, Obama was one of the sponsors.

Not reported here is that Obama tried, and failed to insert a blanket statement that would have applied to other people. I haven't been able to find a cite to that again. I'll follow-up if I do.

Breathtaking. We’ll see if the Keyes suit (along with others) gain any traction under these circumstances.

Outstanding catch!

George Bush was worse than a fool to do that. He has made himself a participant in this coup.

I do agree with you that the potential for unrest is high. Can you imagine if SCOTUS “decided” (I know, not what would happen, but how it would be perceived) another election against a Dem, the first almost-all-black president?

Which “unrest” would be worse?

After 0bama fails to qualify for the office that a majority elected him to,

or when he implements his socialist/fascist policies?

I just thought of something - you know how the left called for the end of the electoral college after Gore lost the EC vote? What are they going to call for if 0bama is disqualified? Ignore the law?

Making it even worse, as you point out, perceived; in this case the racial element, never mind that most all of us I think would be overjoyed to have Clarence Thomas or Sowell or Janice Brown for our leader. You know, the ‘uncle Toms’...it could cause a civil war, guerilla-type and then even the division of the country into 2 parts, like No/So Korea.

I’ll take 6 months of rioting (if it last that long) over 4 years of Obama.

I’m not saying that the unrest potential should have any bearing on a judicial decision. Just commenting on the sociological implications.

And heaven knows, his policies could be utterly damaging. I’m hoping and praying!

Grrrr. The whole electoral college whine really has me ticked. Seemed to be a big talking point this season, too.

And I just saw a story, I really should post it, that Obama isn’t a role model to all young black males. It’s starting already!

Whatever else he is, he should stand an an example of some correct life choices. Education, marriage before children and not wearing one’s pants 12 sizes too big.

I've looked through the record of Senate Resolution 511, and can find no record of a failed amendment. I don't know if Thomas (The Library of Congress' system) records those. This resolution specifically addresses John McCain.

The same senator submitted S 2678, which makes an outright statement, but it's limited to `Any person born to any citizen of the United States while serving in the active or reserve components of the United States Armed Forces'. That's actually pretty broad, when you think about it. But, this bill was left pending in committee.
