AP: Palinmania may stop Romney from running in 2012
Eh. If theres any truth to it, Id say Ambinder is a lot closer to the real reason than the AP is.
The surprising ascendancy of McCains eventual pick, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, and her popularity among some GOP conservatives have left Romney wondering whether he could wage a viable second campaign for the White House, according to friends and advisers
While (Palin) may not be popular with the winning majority that Barack Obama put together, shes enormously popular with the losing minority that John McCain put together and that pretty closely mirrors Republican primary voters, said Rich Bond, former chairman of the Republican National Committee.
Charley Manning, a Massachusetts Republican operative who has worked as a Romney adviser, recently told a local radio interviewer: Id be surprised if Mitt ever ran again for president. I sure dont think it was the best experience of his life.
Taking on the Cuda is a fools errand only if two things occur: (1) the economy recovers, leaving Mitt without an obvious argument for why the base should prefer him to her, and (2) Huckabee doesnt run, thereby ceding social cons to Palin. Number one is obviously more important than number two since a sustained crisis would give the GOP a shot at the White House; absent that, Im not sure why any Republican would want to run in 2012, especially a guy like Mitt who had to eat a ton of campaign debt this year and would probably end up on the hook for a ton more trying to take down The Ones money machine.
For a guy whos supposedly sour on the idea, though, he sure seems to be making the right moves:

Let’s hope he doesn’t run. He won’t even, as far as I know, defend his church at this hour of need. Just the guy I want running the country.
What would he run on?
“Elect another rich white guy?”...................
He could make a good Vice President.
I’m all for Palin starting her Presidential campaign now. I’d give her $100 a month for the next four years.
BTTT
In four years we will need someone to piece things back together again.
he is a freakin’ RINO.
A real conservative hasn’t been on the ticket for the last three elections.
Thank G-d!
Why have a second remake of Willard?
We can only hope. Obama would beat Romney as handily as Clinton beat Dole. ....or Obama beat McCain. First of all his conservative creds are suspect, at best; secondly he has ZERO charisma. Losing combo.
2012 is a long shot for us with the media in the tank for Hussein. Look for the Dems to field a new star at the 2012 convention. IMHO if they can’t come up with a star female candidate by then it’s all Sarah’s in 2016 (or ‘12). I don’t think America will put a white guy in for a couple more cycles now.
A paragraph at the end of the article.
Newt/Palin or Newt/Jindal
Newt may be the strength we need to win.Who knows?
The time of mourning is over. Sanford/Palin in 2012.
That’s where Palin comes in. She’ll gain much more poise, ability to communicate, and “people skills” by 2011 or so (through the help of consultants, teachers, and the internet), and just about then is when the dims will start to fear her for real and not for laughs.
4 days is a long time in politics, 4 years is almost forever!
