It's been a week and a half since Barack Obama was elected president. He won't take office for another two months. But he's already got one big group of Americans on their feet.
What is Barack Obama's position on the right to bear arms? Sen. Obama's campaign Web site says he "respects the constitutional rights of Americans to bear arms." It promises he will "protect the rights of hunters and other law-abiding Americans to purchase, own, transport and use guns."
Seeking to reassure gun owners, Mr. Obama told a campaign audience in Ohio in October: "I will not take your shotgun away. I will not take your rifle away. I won't take your handgun away."
But the crowds mobbing America's gun stores this week say a large number of Americans -- including first-time gun buyers -- don't believe him.
In 2003, while serving in the Illinois Legislature, Mr. Obama voted in favor of a bill in the Judiciary Committee that would have made it illegal to "knowingly manufacture, deliver or possess" so-called "semi-automatic assault weapons," reports Chris Cox, chief lobbyist for the National Rifle Association. "Under this bill, a firearm did not actually have to be semi-automatic to be banned. According to definitions in the bill, all single-shot and double-barreled shotguns 28-gauge or larger, and many semi-automatic shotguns of the same size, would be banned as 'assault weapons.'

Thanks for the tip, I’ll check them out. My wife wants a pistol also so she may get a heavy Christmas present this year.
He's real close to getting those votes.
True. Even if he gets the votes, He's still gotta collect the guns, and that, my friend,< /McCain> ain't gonna be easy.
Don't believe it for a second.
A sweet little .38 Special revolver with 4” barrel. It's the perfect gun for teaching my wife how to shoot. (I told her I was buying it for her. She said she would let me use it, too.:) )
We have long guns fairly well covered, it's just that none of them are “black rifles”.
I'm concentrating on filling out our pistol collection because that's what I can afford right now and I do believe that Obama will be coming after hand guns after he bans evil scary looking rifles.
I wonder how many of these new gun buyers forget to buy the most important accessory.
Plenty of ammo!!
Gun shows all over the country this weekend, go buy a couple cases. No ID, no papers.

I recently bought the last “black” rifle on my wish list so I’m pretty well covered on “assault” weapons.
There are still some more handguns and a couple lever action rifles (which COULD end up on Obeyme’s banned list too due to ammo capacity) which I would like to get while they can still be had.
Does your new .38 use .38+P and/or .357 mag also?
I’ve been re-loading handgun ammo like a mad-man for the last month.
Bami ain’t got the power to git ma guns. As long as I’m alive anyway.
I just put a cheap slip-on recoil pad on my M91/30. Works pretty good. I can run 40 to 60 rounds through it in one afternoon without any problems.
You betcha!
I don't know about that. Sometimes a persons imagination can be his/her own worst enemy, but I do believe people can "sense" when something big is coming or when something doesn't seem right.
In this case, they feel the need to be armed in order to protect themselves from whatever it is they sense. Sometimes, they do know what it is they fear, but the fear is real nevertheless. They "know" something isn't right.
People are also running for comfort food. They want to go back in time when they felt secure. They don't want to face what's coming - whatever it is.
Not sure about the .357 mag. He did tell me it was fine for .38+P. I'll have to confirm that when I pick it up on Monday.
Well put.
I don’t even know how to load a gun, much less use one.
Well, let’s look at the record. The largest gun roundup in US history took place after the Katrina Incident. How many law enforcement agents refused to participate?
There’s your answer.
You make a sad, but unfortunately accurate, point.
I've got another SKS inbound, and am going to the gun shop to buy an HK P7 in a few minutes:
It'll be *sweet*.
Right, I had a few guns, but I sold them all and have now bought just one .357 Rossi and a 20 gauge Maverick shotgun. Both are nicely registered now, so the LEOs will have no trouble coming to collect them.
