If I read about the "landslide" election once more I will be forced to hurl bile. The raw data...the true numbers speak what happened in this election.
Obama won by: 204,577 in FL 206,770 in OH 202,110 in VA 13,993 in NC 25,836 in IN 119,896 in NV 140,732 in IA
That comes out to 913,914 votes. So yes...people are claiming McCain was crushed by 7 million votes but in all reality it was 913,914 votes in total that Obama needed at the end of the day. Turn out was lower than 2004 for the GOP...about 20% less. We pretty much know the reasons why Conservatives stayed home and fence sitting moderates went for "Change", but if we put a solid Conservative next time on the ticket we can surely pass up 913,914 make up voters in 4 years. These were the states that mattered the entire time.
We had good turn out in traditionally heavy red counties...if we are to be serious about reversing course in 2010 with the mid-terms...then focusing on a million voters spread across these states is not asking much at all if you really think about it.
Two comments: 1. There were more votes in 2008 than in 2004. Not many and I don’t believe there was a higher percentage, but there were about 1 million more votes.
2. The race was lost in six states that the hated Bush won: Ohio, Florida, Virginia, N.C, Indiana and Colorado. In both Ohio and Indiana, McCain got fewer votes than Bush did.
Next election won’t be as close, just like the second Clinton term.
I think that in this American Idol crazed world, we’re crazy to think the message is more important than who is singing the song. We need a stealth conservative who looks and sounds good, but in his values is the anti-Obama. Just like Obama is the anti-conservative.
HOw many of those votes were ACORN frauds???
oh wait...they’re including popular vote, yes?
Uh, they weren't GOP...
In Florida, Democratic registration gains this year are more than double those made by Republicans; in Colorado and Nevada the ratio is 4 to 1, and in North Carolina it is 6 to 1. Even in states with nonpartisan registration, the trend is clear -- of the 310,000 new voters in Virginia, a disproportionate share live in Democratic strongholds.
And here’s another number for your total: 500,000. That’s the number of absentee ballots cast by military personnel stationed overseas. So far, it’s unclear how many of those votes were actually counted. Polling suggests that at least 2/3 of those ballots were cast for John McCain. Now, divide that number among the various battleground states and the race is even closer.
Republicans should make military voting rights a priority for the next Congress, and raise hell when the Democrats stall. The Dims have never supported military voting reforms, and aren’t about to start now. It’s a winning issue, particularly when we learn how many of those votes went uncounted.
They can try anything they please, there will still be another election. Over whatever they require - do the math.
Oh, and it is AOF.
Spin.
I think ACORN was just a distraction.
I believe it was to keep our eyes off MoveOn.
Oboma made a record amount of money through the Internet this election, in $200 purchased debit card increments, so the money couldn't be traced - form people who live on food stamps !!??? I think not.
So, what do you think MoveOn was up to all this time when no one was paying attention to THEM.?
Largely because the media trumpeted for days before the elections that McCain had already lost.
If those voters had not listened and voted anyway, McCain very well would have won.
It doesn't matter what happens in the intervening time. The Dems always depend mostly on the last month or so before Nov. 4 to do most of their winning. Whether it's Mark Foley-type tactics, the media lying about how the polls are going for the Dem whatever. The last month is when most of the dirty tricks are done to depress the Repub vote.
If the right wing vote had not been split by Ross Perot, Clinton would have lost that reelection.
It would be nice if voter results for each state were withheld until ALL votes for that state are in and counted.
I agree. I don't think McCain would have gotten any where near this close if it weren't for Sara, though. People wanted to vote for her.
McCain couldn’t wait to throw up his hands and quit.
They should have contested EVERY %@#*# ballot.
The Republicans always give us something to vote against, but they never give us anything to vote FOR. I think people are getting tired of that trick. I sure am.
Either they go back to their conservative roots, or they're going to keep losing people to the independent group. Why be a Republican when you can vote democrat and get the same thing (with maybe a little extra $$freebie on the side)?
The dems lie, cheat and steal; they engage in voter fraud and solicit and accept illegal monies, both foreign and domestic and there's barely a peep from the Repubs.
They offer the hand of "bipartasinship" to the dems and it gets bitten off. What do they do? Offer the other hand. They let themselves be shouted down like Elizabeth Hasselback on "the view".
The President should also have taken McCain, Specter, Snow, Hagel and the other Rinos to the woodshed and told them "I get your vote on this issue or your career is done".
Personally, I think that, with 2 or 3 Rinos the dems already have their fillibuster proof majority and they will pass anything they want, constitutional or not.
Mr. Franklin, we could not keep the Republic.
Something must have happened to "Mickey Mouse" on the way to his poling place.
Register a lot more people and your percentage turnout may go down if they don't show up to vote.
There's a difference between the percentage of registered voters who cast ballots and the percentage of eligible voters who do so.
And about that win in Ohio by approximately 200,000 votes-—strangely that is the number of the “questionable” (mostly ACORN) ballots that leftist SOS Jennifer Brunner refused to run checks on to see if they were legit. By the way, Ohio has 88 counties, and 66 of them went for McCain.
Correct...nationally...so they like to inflate by adding crap in like NY, CA, Ill, MA,NJ which are all liberal and will never be a bellweather and always will be blue. But when it comes to battleground all we really lost by was a little less than 1 million votes. We can make that up in 2 years with no problem. We just need fresh voices and fresh faces.
Yes and returns from key areas.
