First off, we’re moving back to Texas before long.

The solution is no amnesty and stick to a conservative message.

The freeloaders will always vote Dem. And we don’t win by pandering. Only by staying conservative and letting the smart voters - of any race - know where we stand.

With an amnesty, however, it’s all over.

Cut welfare, see that they share in the tax burden so they suffer the consequences of liberalism along with the rest of us.

Like that’s gonna happen.

And one of the reasons McCain lost was his failure to grasp how angry bona fide US citizens are with illegal immigration.

It was a hot topic, there for the taking but our candidate took the opposite viewpoint. It’s an issue that won’t go away, even my liberal friends are fed up with it.

Become a socialist and open the borders, they will come if you build that coalition of RINS, traitors and moonbats.

Obama won the latino vote in Florida for the first time ever.

Well, it was the first time he ran in Florida...

Sounds like socialism and banana republics are going to find a new expression in the USA.

I keep hearing people say things like “Hispanics have as much potential for conservatism as they do for liberalism”, but I have never seen anything to back that up.

Cubans I could see. I have known a few Cubans, and the ones I know absolutely could be conservatives (a few are) and they are older Cubans.

But other hispanics? The numbers indicate they prefer a socialistic welfare state. I think pandering the conservative message is a mistake no matter what, but pandering to hispanics is even worse, IMO.

Hispanics aren’t uniform. Those in Florida are Cubans and then the wealthy from Central and South America. Texas is home to some migrants from Mexico, but many of the Texas Hispanics have lived there since the Alamo. California’s Hispanics tend to be from the poorer parts of Mexico and other countries.

First off, this proves that pandering to Latinos by offering amnesty is a loser. McCain and other Republican moderates have been telling us that we need to give amnesty to illegals to win over the Latino vote. McCain got lowest percentage since Bob Dole.

We win over Latinos by emphasizing traditional values and conservative economic values that emphasize entrepreneurship and hard work. Latinos are economic immigrants by and large, and they tend to be more socially conservative, so that seems to me like a good way to win them over.

The biggest reason McCain lost was the financial meltdown. He was actually ahead at RCP by 3% before the stock market crash, and his disastrous response to the financial crash finished him.
Plus McCain didn't get enough of the conservative vote.
McCain spent his entire campaign sucking up to extremist latino groups like LaRaza, and annoying conservatives. He ended up getting clobbered by the Latinos. Serves him darned right.
The lesson is clear: Concentrate on winning the base. In the final analysis, you cannot rely on Latinos to elect a Republican candidate.

Latinos aren't thinking.

FWIW, 1400 Latino babies die each day due to abortion.

What's the solution?

Latinos should be conservatives. For the most part they are hardworking, believing Christians, oppose abortion and reject the morals of Hollywood. Also, They have babies and will pass these convictions on to at least the next two generations. We are way behind on this. Instead of appearing, or being made to appear xenophobic, we need to embrace legal Latino immigration and assimilation.

We respect the rule of law. Therefore, we rightly view illegal immigration as a threat. However, our opposition to illegal immigration has been spun to appear as if we are anti Latino. Turning this around will take us out of our comfort zone. Failure to do so will be our demise.

I’ve been warning about this for a while. Failure to do something about the immigration program is horribly hurting our long-term prospects.

Millions of these people have produced offspring now and that segment of the population has kids at a fantastic rate. Those kids are now in school. Just go to a local kindergarten around me. A very good percentage of those kids are latino. Those children of illegals are citizens. They will be eligible to vote in a few cycles. They won’t vote Republican either. And there is nothing we can do about them because they are citizens.

Failing to address this years ago will be costing us in elections going forward. It will make winning an election on a conservative platform extremely hard.

One of the reasons he won the vote - not everywhere, btw - is that the Dems have dedicated millions of dollars and lots of work to getting the Latino vote. We have done nothing except announce that all Hispanics are illegal aliens and we don’t like them. So who are they going to vote for? The GOP? I don’t think so.

Dick Morris had once said a few years ago that once latino voters become a bigger voting bloc than African-Americans, that Republicans will never see the White House again.

We lost the Hispanic vote forever because of the LaRaza, ACORN sponsored Immigration riots/Demonstrations of the summer of 2006.

Democrats have them CONVINCED that unless they vote for them, they will ALL be deported.

It’s too late! Illegal immigration was hardly an issue in the campaign, because Juan obviously could not attack it. It exists because politicians want votes, businesses want cheap labor, and Jorge Bush went all out to thwart any efforts to get the fence built or place more INS agents on the border. Even let Ramos & Campion languish in prison all this time. If he does not pardon them before he leaves office, then I for one will truly hate this man.

“What’s the solution?”

This will be controversial. Whites need to redevelop some racial consciousness. America would not be the great country that it currently is if it were not majority white. If, tomorrow, whites became the same on average as hispanics (or worse, blacks) in terms of education, criminality, and family values, the U.S. would immediately become a Third world country. It’s not a coincidence that groups with higher rates of anti-social behavior also have lower IQs on average. According to current trends, America is gradually becoming a Third world country.

Having redeveloped racial consciousness, whites should do the simplest thing to keep America majority white — HAVE MORE CHILDREN. There should not be an amnesty for illegal immigrants, and legal immigration should be targeted towards the most skilled people around the world, who will disproportionately be white and Asian. The welfare state should be made less generous in order to discourage unskilled immigration. The only positive demographic trend I see is that conservative whites are having more children than liberal whites, and some research says political orientation is partly hereditary.

The reason racial consciousness among whites (but not among any other group) has become taboo, of course, is because it has played a role in such past evils as slavery and Jim Crow laws. Being proud of one’s race needs to coexist with a belief in being fair to people of all races who are currently in your country, even if you don’t want to invite more of them.

BTW I am of Indian origin. It’s obvious to me that my children will be better off in a country that is majority white rather than majority (black + hispanic). Policies designed to bring the underperforming minorities up to the level of whites (or more accurately, whites down to their level) such as

(1) affirmative action in college admissions
(2) getting rid of standardized tests
(3) taxing intact families with productive people to subsidize broken ones with unproductive people
(4) punishing savers and rewarding deadbeats

will also tend to punish Indian-Americans.

None of my policy recommendations have any chance of happening under Democratic control of Presidency and the Congress.

McCain would be President now is he took the side of 75% of the American people and came out against amnesty. It would have differentiated him from Obama.

He didn’t. 63 million voted for Bush in 2004. 57 million voted for McCain. That’s 6 million who didn’t show up because of McCain’s position on amnesty, ANWR drilling, judges, and campaign finance.

The RINOs got their man, and Americans got Obama.
