Obama to use executive orders for immediate impact
Associated Press ^ | 11/09/2008 | STEPHEN OHLEMACHER

"There's a lot that the president can do using his executive authority without waiting for congressional action, and I think we'll see the president do that," Podesta said. "I think that he feels like he has a real mandate for change. We need to get off the course that the Bush administration has set."

Executive orders "have the power of law and they can cover just about anything," Tobias said in a telephone interview.

On drilling, the federal Bureau of Land Management is opening about 360,000 acres of public land in Utah to oil and gas drilling. Bush administration officials argue that the drilling will not harm sensitive areas; environmentalists oppose it.

"They want to have oil and gas drilling in some of the most sensitive, fragile lands in Utah," Podesta said. "I think that's a mistake."

They way to preserve liberty is not to “put good guys in office”- although that is important. It is to restrict the power of the federal government to “do good” by forcing it to do as little as possible, or if you get real lucky, forcing it to act within the bounds of the constitution.

Hear! Hear!

However, I really don't understand this part:
You can’t do that when you have social conservatives lusting for that fed power to start pulling them levers for the sake of godliness, though.

sensitive, fragile lands in Utah

What nonsense. “Sensitive, fragile lands”?

The late Harry Browne (a libertarian candidate from the 1990s) had an idea that we could fund Social Security and then phase it out by auctioning off all federal lands...which are about 80 or 90 percent of the country.

we may face the same dire choices our founders did

ya think? ~~~sigh~~~ God bless you and your family, Jeff. What days these are.

One thing more...
The other side, march in droves... I mean droves. Our side, when was the last time you saw us clogging up major cities to express our collective voices? I have written, called, faxed, emailed and even visited my reps until I am just plain tired. It doesn't seem to matter.

You guys need to cut out the internecine stuff. You're both right. The potential threat we face now (political persecution) is a next-step-down-the-slippery-slope from legalized abortion. I agree with clamper that the former is the most immediate threat, which cannot be ignored, as it impacts families directly and is eerily similar to the infamous midnight knock on the door.

Be vigilant, but also pray for Barack Obama - for his safety and well-being. I don't hate him - he's God's appointed leader for us right now whether we like it or not, and we're to pray for our leaders. Strip out the politics and just imagine the tension he is under as a human being at this very moment! He may not move on this stuff quickly or at all. He may face a deluge of foreign crises, or his administration may be just one of economic havoc (it's just money), in which case we grind it out for the next four years. I'd breath a sigh of relief if it was all JUST taxes, and restitution to the underprivileged. If my President asks me to do something to help, in a noble cause (street ministry, food for the hungry), I would be pleased and honored to serve him in such capacity by virtue of the office he holds, with a clean Christian conscience despite personal misgivings about the man's character. All he has to do is ask, we're upfront about our differences, there is mutual respect, and we get the job done.

If he really is intent on destroying or imprisoning conservative God-fearing Americans so as to eliminate all opposition, that is ignoble. To the extent it violates life and liberty, we may be called upon to defend our homes from tyranny. My hope, however, is that most liberals are quite at home with a plethora of viewpoints and positions. "Tolerance" - and that works in both their favor and ours. So I'd like to shudder at any comparison between Obama and Hitler. It will be up to him, however, to set the tone. The stuff he's articulated so far (e.g. 100 hours of service for $4,000) seems a little greenish, a little Birkenstock, a little Toyota Prius - but not deadly. I can deal with that! It's just when they pull out the AK-47s that I get a wee bit uncomfortable.

Good to be ready for anything, though. Hope for the best, be prepared for the worst.

I’m going to try to go back to bed and sleep.

Haven’t been sleeping too well for months, can’t get this political BS off my mind.

Hate to see America go in this direction because of stupid people and I throw my kids in that mix.

Hope I am wrong but I feel we are in for a financial, political and social nightmare because of the Dems in full control of legislation/executive orders.

As a Usurper, Nothing Obama orders can become law, because he isn’t a valid president. All states can just ignore any executive order.

Obama can put the issue to rest easily, but he won’t because he knows he can’t.

As a Usurper, nothing congress passes can become law, because Obama hasn’t the authority to sign it into law.

Obama should be FORCED to produce his birth records now, or told to step down, kicked down if necessary.

BS he is and like hell we should. You'd better go read your bible again. God did NOT appoint this fraud, satan did.

Read why this happens.

...I dunno, I guess you assumed...”
I guess YOU guessed wrong. Watch the accusations, pal.

It was "sarcasm." I thought it was obvious. Sorry you missed it.

To break it down for you:

It is stupid and shortsighted to approve the cession of power to the executive branch BECAUSE you cannot assume that you will forever have a president who is friendly to "your side." This is the huge mistake social conservatives have made with Bush. Now they are about to pay for it.

The accusations are for those in my own family. I have been politically involved with social conservatives for as long as many of them have been alive. I probably have a much right to be critical as any person on this board.

I am telling you flat out, there are some REAL problems ideologically within the Republican party, and it is not just with the blue blood country clubbers who are embarrassed by the religious.

There are many social conservatives who have no idea they are proponents of fascism in the name of goodness, biblically based social order, and freedom. They know only a little about the bible, know next to nothing about the constitution, and care even less. They have not even read it (the constitution) since HS and are genuinely surprised when you show them the 10th amendment. Do not tell me it is not so, because I have worked with these people for over 30 years now.

Give an example of a social conservative strategy that depends on usurping unconstitutional powers for the federal government.

Federal drug laws and the patriot act come to mind with NO searching of my memory. There are more.

Bush grants presidency extraordinary powers
Directive for emergencies apparently gives authority without congressional oversight

http://www.wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=55825
Corsi says the president can assume the power to direct any and all government and business activities until the emergency is declared over.

Now keep in mind we were already told there would be a crisis. Between the EO, PA, and this emergency directive we're in deep, deep doo-doo.

I personally thought we'd have at least 2 years of his slow transition(s), room to fight changes, time to awaken fellow Americans. We won't. The manufactured crisis they are all talking about will be upon us sooner than we ever imagined. At that time the world changes forever and not somewhere else, but right here in America.

They have telegraphed their moves every single step of the way. They called us fascist, Bush was Hitler, Bush would abuse his power, Bush was a Manchurian candidate and none of it was true. It was all projection and reflection.

Now, they have already warned us of a manufactured crisis. I keep saying it ‘manufactured crisis,’ it is what they called too. The crisis will be their creation, their making, and it will look like something else. Good God they have told us exactly what they are going to do!!

They called 9/11 Bush's conspiracy to usurp power and if they stay on track that projection is a reflection of what is about to happen to us. The time for Alinsky’s slow changes is just about completed. By the time we turn around in 2009 America will be gone and we'll be at civil war.

I will not be surprised if we are judged harshly because of our callousness toward the innocent.

While I applaud your concern for the unborn, I think it is time for Christians to realize that abortion is not so much a CAUSE for judgment (although it may invoke divine punishment) as IT IS ITSELF THE JUDGMENT. Homosexual activity and aggressiveness, again, is not a CAUSE for judgment so much as IT IS IN ITSELF A JUDGMENT. (kudos to John Piper!)

The judgment is clear in Romans one. People do not want to know God, and he LETS THEM GO. The social evils which bubble out of a rotting culture are in themselves the judgment of God on an apostate society.

Please forgive me for possibly taking a slap at something you are not intimating here, but the picture I get of the primary concern of many Christians is that they want to "avoid God's judgment" for these acts of wickedness. Push a bit further and you see that what they want really is to continue to enjoy the blessings of liberty, the prosperity that comes from freedom, and the security of freedom.

These are improper goals for God's people, and are no less idolatries than the hedonism, sexual license, trust in government, and atheistic pride of the godless. These blessings are byproducts, or "happy accidents," which resulted from a culture bathed in the gospel. Until the church returns to loving God FOR HIMSELF and not for the baubles and trinkets that come with His blessings, we will continue to be largely ineffective with an apostate culture.

They smell the hypocrisy, even if they can't put their finger on it.

I've always wondered how they reconciled abortion in their minds considering their hatred for war.

I see it this way. War is obvious to everyone. Liberals make a stand and seem like heroes. Abortions happen under the cover of darkness and no one sees the “oppressed” or worse yet, the oppressed are really impediments to their future liberal activities so be done with them.
