Fair's Fair (good commentary!)

It's been interesting reading conservative blogs over the past couple of days. There appears to be one main issue floating about: how should we treat President-Elect Barack Obama? There are two schools of thought. The first being that he has been elected President of the United States of America and we should treat him with the respect that is due to his office, unlike the left, who attacked President Bush from day one and compared him to Hitler, called him Chimpy, etc. Criticize his policies, but do it respectfully. Those that adhere to this school of thought seems to believe, by doing this, they will be taking the moral high ground, thus following through on their conservative principles. While the debate about just what "conservative principles" actually should be in the wake of McCain's defeat still rages, they're nonetheless all about keeping it classy, because conservatives, apparently, should be classy. The second school of thought is, basically, screw Obama, he's going to get it from all angles, and who cares if he's President---he's not their president, they don't agree with his policies, they think he's a bald-faced liar, and they're going after him.

While I appreciate what the first school is attempting to do, I have to say, my gut instinct is, if we do that, if we take the high road, Republicans will lose the next election. And the one after that. And the one after that...

You are absolutely correct. When do the IOUs start coming due and how much will they cost us? We will see.

Further to your point, I do believe we are in uncharted water here. Never in the history of the Republic has the opposition party had so many forces working against it. The media and it’s overwhelming advocacy for the liberal ideology will make it all but impossible for Republicans to mount a measurable resurgence in just four short years.

I believe that any opposition that the new house minority leadership offers to the administration and congressional majority will be painted as 1)sour grapes 2)thwarting the “will of the people” and finally 3)Radical right wing extremism.

These are very troubling times indeed. And, to agree with the original poster, these are no times to play nice with your opponents. This isn’t a friendly Sunday afternoon day of tennis, this is a battle for the soul of the country. The Republicans should act accordingly.

KriegerGeist, for whatever my word is worth around here?

A few days before the election I got a fundraising letter( and damn, I wish I had saved it to scan and post here, but I did not ) signed by Sarah, stating the Obama had amassed nearly a billion (!!!) dollars, much of it in foreign donations.

Best President money could buy...

B.O. should be treated as we always have treated B.O., as a loathsome social mistake.

Oh, I almost forgot, that pesky Constitution frowns on that sort of behavior. With all due respect folks, according to the Constitution, on January 20 Barack Obama, in point of legal fact, will be YOUR President. I don’t like it any more than you do, but unless you want to sound like all those idiots who continue to claim that Bush “stole” the election from Gore in 2000, then get real.”

“That pesky Constitution” also says that in order to be President, you must be “Natural born”.
Despite a spate of lawsuits from a number of corners, NObama still is stonewalling and will NOT produce a valid USA birth cert. Don’t even come back with “he has a COLB” from Hawaii=he was born there. NObama’s 1/2 sister, Maya also has a COLB from Hawaii and shw was born in Jakarta, Indonesia.

I want him to produce a true BIRTH CERTIFICATE, which is what I have- you have- and those of us here on FR have.

but unfortunately the MSM will still be there to provide him cover. After all he is of their making it’s in their best interest.”

Does not a single member of the Media have a 401(k)??????

Do not they earn a high salary that will be taxed and taxed and taxed?
Do they not have investments in the stock/bond market?

Do they not own properties that have melted in value?

How much of their money are they willing to give up before they see the damage they have done??

I cannot logically believe that the Media will escape the forthcoming policies we are all fearful of.

The Conservatives that have found a natural home within the Republican party for years, need to withdraw from it and become a group that pushes an agenda from outside, and is courted by either party for their votes. I figure there must be about 25% of the electorate that espouse Conservatism as their guiding principle and their goal as less government, why not become a free agent?”

How about Free Republic Party?

>i>I want him to produce a true BIRTH CERTIFICATE,

So do I. And nothing that I have said would suggest that the quest for Obama's true birth certificate should not move forward by all legal means.

"Mr. Obama will likely not choose direct confrontation, but rely on his many “Corps” to indoctrinate instead."

I wonder what the increase in Home Schooling & Private Schooling will be in the coming years? And, I know that Home Schooling is something hated and despised by our (Virginia) new Senator Mark Warner. It is also hated by the established madrassa/indoctrination machine of the NEA. I wonder if attempts will be made to outlaw home Schooling or make it so regulated and difficult that people have to give up?

There have been a lot of talk about a third party and maybe this IS the time because Mr. O is going to cause division simply because he does have a lot of payback due to whom the country does not know. I am waiting to see how Mr. O will be sworn in,on the bible, koran, nothing to show he wants to bring unity to the country! The GOP truly has no backbone and too many in the party want more moderates than conservatives. I say let them have their way and start another party. Maybe women should start their own party,we know how both parties treat women. Both parties have used the abortion issue to divide women especially when certain situations come up and women are in need of support by other women but politics will NOT allow it.

We need to elect a bunch of smart fighters to Congress and the RNC leadership. Newt Gingrich is my choice to head the RNC.

I agree, that would be a good first step to get Newt running the RNC. Then we can start building a fresh base.

The timing is actually very good because there should be an excellent crop of recruits coming out of the Iraq war. They are battle tested, intelligent, patriotic Americans who have put their lives on the line.

I wonder if Newt would consider a third party candidate which would represent conservatives. We just have too many in the gop that for the most part do not even like conservatives. I think it was Newt who was telling a story to Sean Hannity about a certain high level republican whose wife was nagging him about the Christian right being in the republican party and that she said he needed to get rid of them. That republican leader didn’t dislike the Christian right but was sick to death of having his wife nag him about it.McCain really does not like true conservatives and he will be jumping up and down to get to work with Mr. O. Heck Mr. O might give him a cabinet position, after all it was Sarah who went after Obama while McCain played close to the chest on anything that might make Mr. O look bad,he left that to the scapegoat Sarah Palin.

Will we get in trouble if we call him a chimp?

Does a bear do in the woods? (Except when Sarah is around of course, then they hide).

Unless some Patriot Hawaiian civil servant leaks a copy of his birth certificate before mid December. Or some elector successfully files suit, I guess an elector would have Standing, to force it's production.

I'm sure they will get around to it eventually. First they have to get all the courts stacked in their favor, which really won't take very long as they've managed to hold up most of Bush's appointments. Then they'll start rolling out the MSM by finding “horror stories” of home schooling gone wrong. The facts that 99% of home schooled children score in the top 1% on SAT’s will be ignored, and calls for reform will come from the shocked public, and they'll have no choice but respond.

I don't subscribe to this level of fear. An armed society is a polite society. Any attempts toward disarming society is going to be met with massive amounts of resistance. Mr. Obama will likely not choose direct confrontation

He's already figured that out.

I was going to quote from change.gov, but they've taken most of the "Agenda" section down. Hmm. Imagine that. The supposed "openess" has already gone by the wayside. But lets see if I can recover it...

Ah, here it is in Yahoo's cache

Address Gun Violence in Cities:

As president, Barack Obama would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals who shouldn't have them. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent, as such weapons belong on foreign battlefields and not on our streets.

We of course know what gun grabbers mean by "commonsense measures" (Disarming as many law abiding citizens as possible of as many types of arms as they can demonize) and "making guns ... childproof" (Making sure they won't work when needed).

BTW, take a look at the "Crime and Law Enforcement" section on the cached page. None of it has anything to do with criminals, and the "law enforcement" part consists of paying for more police, presumable to enforce the "commonsense measures" referenced above.

The only curse word in my house now is the “O” word.

He is to be referred to as “Hussein” “Dear Leader” or “The Chosen One” Other imaginative references are encouraged, but I make it quite clear that in MY house, HIS name is anathema

If that makes me a bitter person clinging to my guns, I’m good with that
