"It is very possible, but only if Ted Stevens, the Alaskan Senator convicted for corruption, is able to hold on to his slim lead in this election. Which brings us to some very strange scenarios."

A special election will be called. Appointment is not possible.
Sarah needs to stay as govenor. Reagan, Clinton, Bush, Carter govenors. Kennedy, Obama Senators
I think she has had enough of the national stage for now and the Senate is not as good a place to be elected POTUS. Governors win more because of the executive experience.
She has name recognition and now it is just polishing her image a little better by making policy speeches, writing a book and finding people to surround her who will have her back.
I definitely can see her and Jindal fighting it out in 2012.
Let her nominate her husband for it and she can keep the governorship.
From wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Murkowski)
Upon his inauguration, he resigned his Senate seat and appointed his daughter, Lisa Murkowski, the Majority Leader-designate of the Alaska House of Representatives, in his place. This led his opponents to accuse him of nepotism; as a result, a ballot measure passed in 2004 stripped governors of the power to appoint U.S. Senators, making Alaska one of only three states to do so.[citation needed]
That's what we've done. My wife modified a "Women for McCain/Palin" bumper sticker to say "Women for Palin." It came out very nice, like it was designed that way.

She needs to stay out of that corrupting snake-pit...
“Totally agree, Palin cannot be effective from the U.S. Senate”
*******
It’s more like the Senate itself cannot be efective, and it has the lowset approval in history.
Btter to stay outside that stupid body, then run against the Wash establishment come 2012.
No. As a very junior senator in a minority she will be ignored at best. Let her stay in Juneau do her job and get reelected. All the while amassing a staff, knowledge, and policy theories and proposals. Speak at a few Lincoln Day dinners, name a youngish and very competent person to replace Stevens. Start making connections to Jindal and Pawlenty.Think less about being president and more abour rebuilding the GOP for the long run. Connect with a few younger and talented GOPers in Congress, think Eric Cantor. all the while planning for a reintroduction after a smashing reelection. Use energy as the element to reintroduce herself to America. Go on shows like Marie Bartiromo and Neil Cavuto, if they’r still around. Be taken seriously about a serious topic.
She said she would not do that, in an interview on radio (in Alaska). So, you can rule that one *out* — straight from her own mouth (and she was firm on it, too).
With the apparent approval of the RNC, (because of their silence),the media is on a mission to assassinate the character of a great woman, Governor Sarah Palin, to squelch the current ground swell for her possible 2012 presidential run! No conservatives wanted in the GOP!
She would have to stand in the special election, which is required in Ak., and be elected. She can’t appoint herself.
You gotta’ know the Dems would have an entire army up there attacking her.
Gov. Palin, line your ducks carefully in neat rows before you tip your hand.
I agree. Stay on as Governor and build on the good experience she already has. Continue to make Alaska a prosperous and productive state. Not many states will be able to do that. California for example.
Let the Washington politicians stand around in their circular firing squad.
I agree with all of that.
If Stevens wins reelection when they finish counting the votes, it will be up to the dims in the Senate whether they expel him. I suppose they will do so, but it would be interesting if they decided to censure him, but not expel him— then no opening for Palin.
You said — “I like it too. Why not???”
Well, primarily because she said she would *not* do it — at all. It would go against her principles.... given what she has campaigned on before (according to her own words). This was in a radio interview done on the 6th in Alaska.
“Because you dont get your presidents from Capitol Hill.
She should remain a Governess until her next run for president.”
Oh, please! During the primaries when most of us supported Duncan Hunter with all his capitol hill experience, all we got was a bunch of crap that he hadn’t been a governor! She needs the national exposure. She’s not going to become an idiot if she’s elected to the Senate.
Obviously you are wrong....all the aspirants go to the senate first, don’t they?? Hillary, McCain, Obama, Biden.....It sure hurt them didn’t it????
