America Serves
"When you choose to serve -- whether it's your nation, your community or simply your neighborhood -- you are connected to that fundamental American ideal that we want life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness not just for ourselves, but for all Americans. That's why it's called the American dream."
The Obama Administration will call on Americans to serve in order to meet the nations challenges. President-Elect Obama will expand national service programs like AmeriCorps and Peace Corps and will create a new Classroom Corps to help teachers in underserved schools, as well as a new Health Corps, Clean Energy Corps, and Veterans Corps. Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year. Obama will encourage retiring Americans to serve by improving programs available for individuals over age 55, while at the same time promoting youth programs such as Youth Build and Head Start.
The next step would be a "fair" distribution of local taxes into other districts. Nassau County abuts NYC along the Queens line. RE taxes in Nassau are triple those of a similar house in Queens. As a result Nassau has world class schools (except three or four in black districts). NYC schools suck on every level.
A "fair" distribution of these tax dollars would not bring NYC schools up, it would bring Nassau schools down and drive home owners out.
Naw, he's going to have the help of the Forced Labor Goon Squad. There won't be any rebelling.
Although, it will be really interesting to see what the welfare recipients and gang-types will be doing for "volunteer" services.
Which one are you? Pick Obama's label for you and wear it with pride
Exactly. :)
Some may not remember the Clinton Admin proposed exactly the same thing, early on. Turns out, of course, only liberal "groups" were on the acceptable list for performing the compulsory "volunteer" work. And this created a huge backlash throughout America.
Dittos in re homeschooling. Homeschoolers actually tied up and shut down the phone service to Congress; the reaction was that tremendous.
I think, the Obama trial "page" was purely that. A tease, a tester. I think there will be more, like these, before January. I think these can be categorized as "presidential trailers coming to a box office near you in January."
NOT THIS FAMILY! We WILL NOT be forced into serving anybody!
Speaking of that guy, did you hear that on the 4th, the winning lotto numbers for the lowest game (3 numbers to win) in the State of Illinois was 6-6-6! Wow. Can't confirm this, though. Read it on my other fav website: RAPTURE READY?
“The basis of your argument is utterly without merit.”
Wow, Nice comment, considering I’ve yet to see you posting anything of merit to counter.
I imagine you won’t, or can’t, but thanks for playing anyway...
developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every yearokay, topics about this have been posted plenty of times, but now some questions:
It’s smacks of Soviet era programs. And I suppose new tax dollars will be needed to fund and staff these mandatory volunteer programs. My son did his share of community service in high school (pretty much now a given in my area), if one is already in community service, will those hours count toward required hours or will only certain programs be eligible? And some kids are already overscheduled, with sports and tutors and lessons and after school jobs. So now they need basically to be driven or drive themselves to yet another project? Won’t this impact or conflict with climate initiatives?
I find it chilling that you equate your Grandfather asking you to do something with the government ordering your child to do something.
And it is sad that you can not see that socialism is exactly what it is.
In California, do the students get assigned duties for community service or do they get to choose a project of their own liking?
The schools have ‘preferred’ charities.
He can't. We won our victories, up to and including a Supreme Court ruling. Children are not wards of the state, and parents have the right to direct their education in any way they see fit.
Homeschooling is, by and large, a state matter. However, we need to stay ever, ever vigilant that our state legislatures will not pass stupid laws encroaching on our freedoms.
no question about it.
I never thought I’d see the day that I’d be hoping the President of the United States is merely incompetent as opposed to an agent of Baal.
We can still get this joker out of there if enough push is put on BOs birth certificate problem.
LOL....saboteur!
