California's Henry Waxman unleashed a surprise attack Wednesday against fellow Democrat John Dingell of Michigan. Each wants to lead the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee; Dingell is now chairman. The panel will be extremely important in 2009, when President Barack Obama unveils his plans to dramatically alter America's energy strategy. Obama correctly wants to push renewables, something dear to Waxman's heart. Dingell, on the other hand, has been a longtime supporter of the Big 3 auto companies. He succeeded for years in fending off congressional attempts to require higher fuel efficiency from U.S. vehicles. In Waxman's attack against Dingell, he said in part: "The issues we will confront are immensely difficult. We will need the very best leadership in Congress and our committees to succeed. "Enacting comprehensive energy, climate, and health care reform will not be easy. But my record shows that I have the skill and ability to build consensus and deliver legislation that improves the lives of all Americans." Jodi Seth, a Dingell spokeswoman, responded: "Tearing a leadership apart is something the Republicans should be doing after their big loss. It shouldn't be the first order of business for the Democrats after a historic election." |

I’ll take the Dingell berry for $10..........
This is going to be fun. All eyes are on the Democrats. Let us see how long it is before this falls apart.
They should work it out with a duel. Shotguns at 15 feet.
Your on. When it comes to democrats having a cat fight always bet on the crazier one. And Waxman jumped off the sanity train a long, long time ago.
Only if you think that hitting your big toe with a hammer is "fun".
We called in the painters, and they've started tearing down walls and remodeling!
Unions versus environmentalists, news at 10.
Pelosi will have to put down this insurrection and fast. Dingell will retain his chair. Waxman is not gonna take it away..........
Hand grenades would be better...........
We don’t need Californians setting energy policy.
What an unmitigated disaster that would be for the country.
Barak is already pretty stupid for saying we shouldn’t build coal plants. I take the idiot at his word, but I know that is subject to change depending on who is writing the check.
the gays and blacks are still fighting each other.
coming soon: kids who like their iphones vs the commies who want them to dig ditches for the common good.
Given her last two years of utter incompetence I wonder if she is going to have to make some serious concessions with the boys to keep her precious gavel.
Any of you photoshop geeks out there want to make a Pelosi/ Gollum precious gavel picture for us?
Note to self: buy popcorn futures.
I don’t think she will. Pelosi sides with Waxman and has gone up against Dingell before.
This isn’t about Dingell v. Waxman as it is Everbody Else v. Michigan. Michigan has demonstrated it’s happy to eat crap sandwiches with an extra helping for dessert.
I believe that Dingell actually owns guns and supports the 2nd Amendment.
There is nothing quite so delicious as vicious bifactionalism. Heads will roll. In politics, it is akin to civil wars.
I saw this on Beacon Hill in Boston years ago. It was quite a hoot as the governor’s office(Dukakis) was at endless war with the legislature(more than 70% Democrats).
Hah!
Waxman need not go out in a downpour. He’d drown.
Not much of an economy to feast on.
* Democrats ** in the Capitol
