Vanities used to be well thought out, researched and/or funny and somewhat rare. Now the vanities consist of whatever crap pops in someone's head and they are drowning out whatever news is being posted.
I'm not the forum police, but please add you're rant, joke or pearl of wisdom to an ongoing thread.

I’ve really liked the vanities lately, the attitudes are refreshing compared to the garbage i’m reading in the typical press and media, even the non-mainstream media.
I just saw some clown named cameron on fox news citing at length “ANONYMOUS SOURCES” smearing palin. Even fox news integrity is down the tubes. Yeah send me more vanities, they’ve been good lately and keeping me sane.
There’s a lot of despair around here, looking for an outlet.
I’ve rehearsed a couple of vanities that I never quite pulled the trigger on, so I certainly understand the urge.
I think I’ll start a thread patting myself on the back for resisting the urge to post a vanity.
And then do it again for each topic on which I didn’t post.
HERE’S AN IDEA!
Just institute a requirement that all vanity posts be spelled correctly. That’ll cut ‘em in half instantly.
You're right: we should have a section for blogger-like or personal-type posts--but right now it's just a dream...

I agree. Most of what people say in vanities could be posted in existing threads pertaining to that subject. I have been finding FreeRepublic a rather boring place lately. Let’s get back to basics!

I have not seen much on this, and this one issue that needs to be address after this election as soon as possible.
We had the same problem in 2004...

And while we’re at it, let’s cut back on the youtube link posts. Totally useless in dial-up flyover country.
We have almost as many idiots on our side than they do on theirs.
Management should consider simply nuking any vanity thread that is posted, at least for the time being.
Provide one big daily or weekly “coffee klatch” thread where all vanity comments can go and nuke the rest.
Nip them in the bud and the futility of posting them will cut deeply into the problem.

Besides being poorly thought out, the grammar, spelling and intellectual content of most vanity posts just plain sucks. It seems we have a bunch of egocentric asses here lately who think that whatever their little brains generate is worthy of public display. The video postings fall into this category as well. Some doofus sees some thing he likes of he posts it---with no explanation, e.g., "Hey guys, this is great!" or, "I just saw something on TV and it was really funny!"
Frankly, I think many of the FReepers here cannot write, so they don't, they just show videos with no accompanying prose.
After almost 10 years here, I'm just about ready to bail, it's that bad..
One can choose not to read them. Right now we need to vent. What has happened cannot be contained within one’s soul.
