Enough already. Please.
Vanities used to be well thought out, researched and/or funny and somewhat rare. Now the vanities consist of whatever crap pops in someone's head and they are drowning out whatever news is being posted.
I'm not the forum police, but please add you're rant, joke or pearl of wisdom to an ongoing thread.
Don't forget the "I'm too lazy/important to use Search" person, and the "I can't tell the difference between FR and AOL Chat" person who defends them.
does this count as a vanity post??? just curious. ;-)
Aye!
It is irritating to go on FR looking for news and finding half of it is vanity posts.
Admins, how about starting a Vanity Forum? Maybe limit word length. If they have a long diatribe or a book, have people sign up to receive it by email or send them to a link on a web page or to their personal info.
Help me follow your logic (those of you who identified this thread as a vanity please chime in): we should feel free to express our opinions in threads of their own except when we express the opinion that opinions should not be expressed in threads of their own?
I know it doesn't make a difference, I'm just easily amused by watching it.
What is the purpose of a vanity? What is supposed to be posted there?
Already posted. ;-)
Better delete it because it wasn't. LOL
I just gave someone grief in a vanity for complaining because it seemed like a suppression of free speech to me... but at the same time, I agree that news should be news, and one of the most important aspects of FR is that it IS a news forum.
At the same time, people do need an avenue to speak out, and FR attracts a lot of viewers because it allows that.
I don’t think it should be suppressed, and I don’t think they should be referred to as vanities.
I think part of the problem is the category title itself.
It mixes the very elements of both sides.
How about taking “Activism” out of the news category title, and renaming the chat area to include it?
Amen.
... well, at least you posted this vanity in Breaking News.
What is this "free speech" you are referring to? Free Republic is privately owned, there is no right of free speech here.
Thank you. I emphatically agree.
agreed. many are trolls or just tangent threads to running threads in order to dilute the quality of threads.
We do not need a seperate thread to discuss ONE ITEM rush said if we have a live rush thread.
we do not need a seperate vanity to discuss somthing that derives from the morning talk thread.
no many vanities were “jammers” from opposition camps.
it will become oblivion. How will the self promoters get attention?
Dont be so gloomy. Our elected party and Obama voters had cancer. We decided the costs of treatment (loosing an election) was too painful and went for painkillers (GWB vetos, Jer Wright/Wil Ayers ads) to keep us going. Now we are in hospital finally healing, yes it’s costly, more costly than if done earlier. Next in January we go to gym and train and by April May we come out swinging again, first time in years. It’s over,. GWB curse will be gone. McCain needs to get on board or out with him. Renew, it had to happen, turn it positive.
>>>What is this “free speech” you are referring to? Free Republic is privately owned, there is no right of free speech here.
Technically correct... so why allow FR members to post at all? Why shouldn’t members be required to contribute before they are allowed to post? Why shouldn’t all posts be scrutinized before being published? Who actually does have the right to post here? I agree... the owners ARE the only ones who have a true right here to say or suppress anything they want. So why don’t they just ZOT anyone who expresses an opinion that differs even slightly from their own?
Yeah... you are right... but you are also wrong.
>>>it will become oblivion. How will the self promoters get attention?
Cat juggling?
Seriously... posting an opinion thread in a news category ticks me off too... I say if someone posts in the wrong category, mods should feel free to just delete the damb thing.
It won’t take long for them to get the message.
