URGENT RESEARCH HELP: black liberation theology "half-notes scattered without rhythm / no tune"
Dreams from My Father | 1995 | Ayers / Obama

Posted on 11/03/2008 7:43:38 AM PST by KayEyeDoubleDee

Could someone please help research the genesis [etymology/etiology] of the following Black Liberation Theology chant:

...half-notes scattered
without rhythm / no tune

distraught laughter fallin'
over a black girl's shoulder
it's funny / it's hysterical
the melody-less-ness of her dance
don't tell a soul
she's dancing on beer cans and shingles...

somebody / anybody
sing a black girl's song
bring her out
to know herself
to know you
but sing her rhythms
carin' / struggle / hard times
sing her song of life...

I found god in myself
and I loved her / I loved her fiercely

I'm getting hits on it at Google, but I'm too deeply immersed in the Ayer/Obama semantics project to devote any time to it right now.

Is the "god" actually a pagan goddess?

Or is the "her" that "I love" a [human] lesbian lover?

Or maybe she is both a pagan goddess and a lesbian lover?

Also: What is the earliest known occurrence of this chant?

Is it at all possible that William Ayers [or Bernardine Dohrn] was involved in the creation of this chant?

Or are these maybe the lyrics to some well-known counter-culture folk song?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can shed light on this.

Sorry about the duplicate link. Apparently it comes from this person: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ntozake_Shange

It’s from a “choreopoem” by Ntozake Strange, entitled “colored girls who have
considered suicide/when the rainbow is enuf”

She is supposedly the inventor of the choreopoem and wrote this one in 1976. It was apparently produced on Broadway and published in book form.

Tons of info out there on it, but this is all I have time to gather for you right now. Hope this helps.

Looks like you've already been answered with post #3.

It's a poem called "lady in brown." in For colored girls who've considered suicide/when the rainbow is enuf, by Ntozake Shange.

So is she saying that she considers her lesbian lover to be her own personal "god" [as in "Oh god, oh god, I'm coming!"]?

Or is she saying that she worships a pagan goddess whom she loves [in the way that Christians are supposed to love God with all their hearts and all their minds and all their souls]?

PS: I'm not being facetious about this - I'm trying to understand why Obama claims to have taken a girl on a date to see a performance of this nonsense, and why he claims that the two of them [he & his date] were so deeply moved by the performance.

PPS: Or is this utter and complete gibberish, and it's pointless to try to understand what the heck anyone is talking about here?

PPPS: In case any of you weren't aware of this already, Obama is a nihilist monster the likes of which we have never before seen in American politics.

That play was popular enough to run on Broadway. As I recall, it was a big hit. The truth is, there is a lot of sick stuff out there in the entertainment business.

I certainly didn’t see it, and I don’t think I knew anyone who had. But as I recall, it was a hit musical, a pretty big money maker.

No doubt young Obama would have thought it was cool.

Perhaps someone on The List can answer your questions.

Ping.

I heard that Obama actually wrote it and dedicated it to Michelle...one of those times he was high on crack.

Then he sold it to Trinity and that was why Wright initially got excited about him becoming a member. [/sarcasm]

I think it’s utter and complete gibberish, concocted in the weak mind of someone with a bitter soul.
