Good question. I had not heard of this until today. If SF Chronicle sat on this then someone should ask them that question. If it was available in the public domain all this time I cannot believe it was missed completely by ALL of the people looking for an issue to use against the Messiah. But, the evidence is what it is. He said it. He said under his admisnitration if you wanted to run a coal plant you would go bankrupt and he also said energy costs would “necessarily skyrocket”.

Probably because McCain’s in favor of cap and trade in some form as well. Though his specific reason isn’t to put coal plants out of business.

Still, everyone in the coal business knew what this guy had in mind with his cap and trade deal ~ he and the enviro-nazis want to put coal out of business ~ just not in China.

Obama is just stupid enough to buy into every hairbrained scheme the left can come up with. The man is not Presidential Timber.

Did anyone pick up Colmes’ “spin”? I know he went to the thing about “clean coal”, but that didn’t address the issue. And, as usual, he did his “McCain did it too!”.

But he also picked out another Obama quote that he used. What was it? It sounded intentionally misleading.

It’s Ali’s rope-a-dope strategy applied to politics. It’s an October surprise in early November. Maybe McCain waited too late, or just maybe focusing on the tape this late will deny Obama and his MSM enablers the time to blunt its effects. We will soon see.

Pennsylvania, Ohio, Missouri, and West Virginia are all states with significant coal mining interests. Not to mention electric power generation in many places that would also be affected.

Colmes was reading the Dem talking point response: “Both McCain and Obama support clean coal technology.”

Because Obama has said other positive things about coal elsewhere, that must mean this quote must be placed in context.

This context, however, is not about PUBLIC statements. This is a statement made privately to those who thought were supporters. In other words, they got insight into his real thoughts on the subject. I understood this to be the same time, roughly, as when he made the “bitter, clinging to gods and guns” comments.

Is that correct?

I keep posting the same thing tonite...but this so important...so please forgive me if anyone who has read this from me early this evening.

What is needed is a quick turn around 527 sponsored ad about this...and air time quickly purchased regionally during Monday Night Football...the Steelers are playing at Washington...so all those coal miners, all those W. Pennsylvanians, West Virginians, and Ohioans who depend on coal for their livelihood (and power as most of our electricity here is coal generated) will be tuned in to watch the Stillerz...and need to be reminded of 0bama's view on coal

. The Rev. Wright Ad was on during the NFL games today...and this coal thing needs to be viral tomorrow during MNF...

There is another H/C live thread as well...honest I am not being the thread police...I just wanted to post this on every 'coal thread.' I think this is an excellent idea...so hopefully it happens!

If I understand the two correctly, Obama wants to do it by bankrupting coal plants and using the government fines to fund research. McCain wants to use some government and some private funding to develop technology...not bankrupt the plants.

In the past few days, Americans learned how important functioning credit markets are to the health of the economy. In the next few years they will learn how important an adequate electricity system is as well. It will be a similarly unpleasant revelation. Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden's rejection of coal plants during a campaign stop in Ohio this week - the bumbling Biden even claimed, erroneously, that the Obama ticket was "not supporting clean coal" - is being treated as a gaffe. But it wasn't, really. Biden's attitude precisely reflects a growing consensus among politicians on the environmental...

But his little-noticed follow-up statement might be even more foolish — and dangerous. When it comes to sheer crackpottery on environmental issues, no national figure can measure up to the lofty standard set by the former Tennessee senator and vice president. Two high-profile Colorado Republicans took aim at Barack Obama and his running mate Joe Biden today, calling the Democrats too liberal for Colorado and a threat to the state's energy needs. Seizing on a recent comment Biden made in Ohio that he and Obama don't support "clean coal" plants in the U.S., former Gov. Bill Owens and Scott McInnis, a former member of Congress, said the Democratic ticket owed an "explanation" to voters about where the state's energy is going to come from. Speaking last Wednesday on a celebrity panel in New York, the Nobel Prize Laureate proclaimed: "If you're a young person looking at the future of this planet and looking at what is being done right now, and not done, I believe we have reached the...

When the curtain goes up tonight on the most highly anticipated vice-presidential debate in American political history, Alaska governor Sarah Palin will have a golden opportunity to regain the momentum for the McCain campaign. To do that, she must focus on the issue that resuscitated the GOP presidential effort earlier this summer, and that indirectly led to John McCain picking her as his running mate: energy. As Larry Kudlow pointed out last month, 2008 is the energy election. The past two weeks have seen the imbroglio in the financial markets emerge as a legitimate crisis as well as a potent campaign issue....

Energy took center stage in the final US presidential debate Wednesday night as both Republican John McCain and Democrat Barack Obama pledged to eliminate oil imports from the Middle East and Venezuela in the next decade. Selling federal land in Nevada to a merchant generator that wants to build a 1,590-MW coal-fired plant on the site would pose limited adverse environmental impacts, the US Bureau of Land Management said on Wednesday. In a final environmental impact statement, BLM proposed selling land for the plant to LS Power and leasing the company additional tracts of federal land for transmission line rights of way. LS Power's proposed White Pine Energy Center would be built near Ely, Nevada. I find it hard to believe, but while searching for a video feed for Sarah in Columbus at CNN.com, I noticed they had a video clip labeled Sarah Palin On Clean Coal. Since there was no rally feed, I clicked and found that it's a clip from Sarah's rally earlier today where she mentions the Obama bankrupting the coal industry tape. I can't believe that CNN pulled this out and posted it. http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/politics/2008/11/02/sot.palin.clean.coal.cnn

CHARLESTON - At least one state coal industry leader said he was shocked by comments Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama made earlier this year concerning his plan to aggressively charge polluters for carbon and greenhouse gas emissions. "What I've said is that we would put a cap and trade system in place that is as aggressive, if not more aggressive, than anybody else's out there," Obama said in a Jan. 17 interview with the San Francisco Chronicle that was made public today first on the Web site newsbusters.org, which calls itself "the leader in documenting, exposing and neutralizing liberal media...

Change we can freeze to death by: Let me sort of describe my overall policy. What I've said is that we would put a cap and trade system in place that is as aggressive, if not more aggressive, than anybody else's out there. I was the first to call for a 100% auction on the cap and trade system, which means that every unit of carbon or greenhouse gases emitted would be charged to the polluter. That will create a market in which whatever technologies are out there that are being presented, whatever power plants that are being built, that...

MARIETTA, Ohio (CNN) – Campaigning in coal country just two days before the presidential election, Sarah Palin is highlighting an interview Barack Obama gave to the San Francisco Chronicle in January in which the Democrat suggested coal plants would be bankrupted by his cap-and-trade proposal. Audio of Obama’s comments began bubbling up on major conservative blogs over the last 24 hours, and Palin wondered why voters were only now hearing about the remarks. The insinuation that the Chronicle had been hiding the coal comments from the public brought about shouts of “Liberal media!” from the crowd. “Why is the audio...

MARIETTA, OHIO) - Seizing on a newly released audio tape picked up by the Drudge Report, Sarah Palin took the opportunity here in coal country to accuse Barack Obama of “talking about bankrupting the coal industry.” “He said that, sure, if the industry wants to build coal-fired power plants, then they can go ahead and try, he says, but they can do it only in a way that will bankrupt the coal industry, and he's comfortable letting that happen,” Palin said. “And you got to listen to the tape.” The audiotape Palin was referring to was recorded by the San...

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- With only hours before election day, coal has become a major topic of Decision 2008. Sunday an audiotape surfaced from an interview Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama did with the San Francisco Chronicle in January. In the interview, Obama talks about the importance of coal. He went on to talk about his cap and trade proposal to help curb global warming. "If somebody wants to build a coal power plant they can, it's just that it will bankrupt them because they are going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that's being...

West Virginians and Ohioans know that America's energy future lies underground - in our vast deposits of coal. Coal holds the promise of providing new gaseous and liquid fuels we need to achieve energy independence. Sen. John McCain, the Republican candidate for president, understands that. He wants to provide federal help for new coal gasification and liquefaction plants. He also wants to use more coal - burned without harming the environment - for other purposes. That is just one reason we believe residents of our states should vote for McCain for president. McCain's opponent, Sen. Barack Obama, claims that he,...

Sarah Palin on Sunday punched the liberal media yet again. And this time it looks like she connected. Hopping on comments promoted by conservative blogs, Palin said the media are trying to hide Barack Obama's comments that his pollution proposal could bankrupt coal plants. The audio of the interview with the San Francisco Chronicle is here. The germane part of the interview: "So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can. It’s just that it will bankrupt them because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted."

Coal is one of the true measures of the energy strength of the United States. One quarter of the world’s coal reserves are found within the United States, and the energy content of the nation’s coal resources exceeds that of all the world’s known recoverable oil. Coal is also the workhorse of the nation’s electric power industry, supplying more than half the electricity consumed by Americans. Coal-fired electric generating plants are the cornerstone of America's central power system. To preserve this economically-vital energy foundation, innovative, low-cost environmental compliance technologies and efficiency-boosting innovations are being developed by the Energy Department's Fossil...

In reporting the speech by Gov. Sarah Palin in Ohio today, CNN’s Political Ticker tried to spin her question about Obama’s coal comment as old news when it clearly isn’t. Palin asked why we are just now finding out about the interview where Barack Obama said he had hoped to bankrupt the coal industry but CNN termed this interview and Obama’s startling admission as “months-old coal comments” in an attempt to soften the blow to Ohio and Pennsylvania voters. The Political Ticker said that since the San Francisco Chronicle had these comments on its website for nine months, the news...

Obama spokesbot says this was taken out of context: “So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can. It’s just that it will bankrupt them because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted.” Can we shut down the coal industry? Yes we can. Can we double everyone’s electric bill? Yes we can. Can we shut down the economy and put aluminum workers out of work? Yes we can. Can we ship even more jobs to China? Yes we can. Can we have China burn even more coal not as...
