Colmes was reading the Dem talking point response: “Both McCain and Obama support clean coal technology.”

Because Obama has said other positive things about coal elsewhere, that must mean this quote must be placed in context.

This context, however, is not about PUBLIC statements. This is a statement made privately to those who thought were supporters. In other words, they got insight into his real thoughts on the subject. I understood this to be the same time, roughly, as when he made the “bitter, clinging to gods and guns” comments.

Is that correct?

If I understand the two correctly, Obama wants to do it by bankrupting coal plants and using the government fines to fund research. McCain wants to use some government and some private funding to develop technology...not bankrupt the plants.

These comments were in an interview with the editorial board of the SF Chronicle. Best I’ve been able to cull out, the Chron put the audio on their website. But their coverage in the paper did not include the explosive statements on coal and skyrocketing energy prices.

So the tape was there all along. I guess the oppor researchers (if there ARE any in the McCain camp) assumed the audio simply reflected what the paper wrote. Turns out there was a lot more there.

“Both McCain and Obama support clean coal technology.”

But for obama, CO2 is a pollutant, so he would only be in favor of coal technology that let no CO2 escape.

He had the paper right in his hand and was reading it POORLY. Sometimes I wonder if he's not presenting BO's side so badly on purpose. It's JUST SO pathetically presented.

It's like 2 candidates are in favor of encouraging overweight people to lose weight.
But one candidate will shoot those who don't lose enough weight.

I think you are correct, Father.

What is also afoot is Obama will take one position in one place and practically the other side of the issue in another just so he can give cover to those spouting his talking points to muddy the waters.
