IAEA finds man-made uranium traces at Syrian site bombed by Israel
Special Report

Syrian reactor
A senior Vienna-based diplomat reported Monday, Nov. 10, that the latest findings are significant enough for the nuclear watchdog to place Syria right after North Korea and Iran on its agenda for further investigation. Last June, UN inspectors collected the soil samples which yielded the uranium traces from al Kibar in northern Syria, where a nuclear reactor under construction was razed by Israel in Sept. 2007.
Sources report that even if the uranium traces found at bombed site were slight, they are damning because they were clearly man-made not natural ore - and must have been brought in by an outside source, possibly North Korean visitors. These outsiders would have had only one reason to be there: to assist in the construction of a nuclear facility for Syria and inspect the work in progress.
The IAEAs conclusion refutes claims by Damascus, including president Bashar Assad, that the installation at Al Kibar was an agricultural research station. Syria has denied allegations that it was building a reactor with North Korean expertise to produce plutonium for an atom bomb.
Soon after the Israeli bombing, our sources disclosed that the reactor was destined to manufacture nuclear fuel to help Iran accelerate its enrichment program and plutonium for radioactive bombs.
On Oct. 4, we revealed that, a year after the Syrian reactor was destroyed, Syria had gone back to its military nuclear projects in conjunction with North Korea and Iran. This time they were scattered across the country at three or four sites.
Syria has ignored recent requests from the IAEA to inspect three military sites suspected of housing nuclear facilities. Although Damascus is alleged to be manufacturing weapons of mass destruction for use against Israel, transitional prime minister Ehud Olmert persists in pushing for peace talks with the Syrian regime and far-reaching territorial concessions by Israel.
Thank you for the ping.

Israel said to be set to attack Iran

An Israeli academic says the time before new US President Barack Obama is sworn in is an “attractive date” for Israel to attack Iran.
Historian Benny Morris had earlier declared in an op-ed article for The New York Times that Israel would likely to strike Iran between Nov. 5 and Jan. 19, the day before Obama is sworn in.
Speaking to The Jerusalem Post this week he said that he continues to believe that Israel will attack Iran during the same period.
“There is certainly a friendly president in the White House until January 20. There is no certainty over what will happen after that, in which direction the wind will blow,” he added.
“So long as Iran makes [nuclear] progress, we are under pressure, if we plan on doing something. Iran is supposed to purchase advanced anti-aircraft guns from Russia at the start of 2009. All of these point to the fact that if the US provides support, an Israeli strike is reasonable,” Morris stated.
He even believes that Israel could have already set a date for Iran war.
Nesquik brand strawberry powder recalled
The FDA said Nestle USA initiated the voluntary recall because the 21.8-ounce containers of drink mix powder might contain small fragments of aluminum. Each recalled container has a production code of "82255880" or "82265880" printed on the bottom, with a "best by" date of August 2010.

Arizona Department of Health issues rabies warning
Arizona is on track this year to break the state's annual record number of rabies cases. Since January, Arizona State Health Laboratory has confirmed rabies in 162 animals; 38 humans and 119 pets were exposed to these rabid animals. Many of these exposures occurred within the last few weeks. In 2005, 169 animals tested positive for rabies.
Leprosy forgotten but not gone
Long believed to be a disease of biblical times, leprosy, also known as Hansen's disease, continues to be seen in the United States. "Approximately 150 cases are diagnosed each year with 3,000 people in the U.S. currently being treated for leprosy, says James Krahenbuhl, Ph.D., director of the Health Resources Service Administration's National Hansen's Disease Program (NHDP) in Baton Rouge, LA. "We believe there are more cases of leprosy not identified due to the lack of awareness about the disease among physicians in the U.S., which is leading to misdiagnosis and wrong treatments for patients who are left to suffer with the debilitating damage caused by this disease."

FBI accuses man of lying in terror case
Globe Staff / November 12, 2008
Statements that Tarek Mehanna allegedly made to the FBI two years ago in the midst of a terrorism investigation came back to haunt him last weekend, when the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy graduate was arrested as he was about to board a Boston flight to start a new job overseas.
(snip)
The affidavit filed in Mehannas case in Boston says that Maldonado admitted to authorities that while in the southern part of Somalia, he called Mehanna and, using code words, urged him to join in fighting for an Islamic state in Somalia.
The affidavit says Mehanna told the cooperating witness that when Maldonado called him from Somalia he did not say anything that provided direct evidence that he was doing anything illegal.
But, Mehanna told the witness that Maldonado used code words, including culinary school and the phrase, making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, which meant, Im here fighting, according to the affidavit.
