What’s this about a “Fairness Doctrine?” First I’ve heard of it. /s

Gosh, without media access, I could have a Real Life again: clean my house, bake bread, take the kids to the dentist, practice the mandolin, write to my mother ...

It has potential.

Rather than the audience, it will more interesting to see what the Talk Radio hosts do: are they willing fight for their own First Amendment??

With Internet radio and satellite radio, are we really all that worried about the Fairness Docrine?

Just raising a question for debate.

My personal feeling is that such a doctrine would kill commercial radio (over the public airwaves) and that the broadcasters will never let it happen.

I agree they’ll try, but the Roberts court will strike it down.

I suspect SOMEONE will take the Fairness Doctrine to the courts right after it is passed!

If they try to initiate this again, the fairness doctrine should not just apply to radio...it should be across ALL media.

We’d better start calling it the “so-called fairness doctrine.” The left really knows how to title things to mean the opposite of what they are. We are really dumb if we continue to go along with their misleading titles.

I think satellite radio and internet radio...end up dissolving the Fairness Doctrine into a dead issue. If the Democrats want to run the doctrine...they will doom AM radio to bailout money for years to come...while everyone shifts to venues that the SEC cannot control or change.

A secondary issue will end up arising as various groups turn to the AM stations that broadcast NPR...asking that they tone down their message. Either the Feds convert NPR to satellite radio or it will be in serious legal trouble. For those wondering...satellite radio channels won’t come cheap and if the federal government wants to run a full-time channel....it’ll make for a curious congressional meeting where massive funding has to occur because they can’t run a “fair” network.

The fairness doctrine will never pass the Senate absent a filibuster-proof majority by the Democrats ... and that looks very unlikely.

This is just left-wing campaing bluster ... people will be shocked at how little a President can get done, even with Congress on his side.

Grass roots wise, conservatives would pour major money to fight this because this will cost powerful people billions. Billions upon billions. Now I am not advocating the next sentence, in any way shape or form, simply stating a fact.........when billions are involved it can become dangerous to human life. You can imagine the rest.

If the Messiah wins, we will have to fight to keep our voices. How about millions of phone calls, letters, and emails? How about Rush TELLING listeners to contact their elected representatives?

Unfortunately for us, whether it’s the radio airways or the MSM, it all depends on who the people are that judge whether something is fair or not. It’s so subjective.

About a year ago, Rush talked about the fairness doctrine coming back and he said he had plans for this and not to worry. He hasn’t mentioned those plans lately and things have gotten more ominous. I know they/we’ll fight it but maybe he does have other plans.

I honestly can’t imagine a world without a Daily Rush.

Could the "Fairness Doctrine" actually benefit conservatives?
Potentially, it can.
Today the electorate is not only segregated by age, sex, age, race, faith, etc, etc,. It's segregated and insulated by adherence to or rejection of the popular culture. Your friends may diss you because you listen to Rush or your family may cut your inheritance if they discover you're a basement Dummie.
Some don't believe nor will they ever watch the MSM, some live and die by every tingle they put out.
The POP Culture has turned against and ridicules conservatives just as the conservative media lampoons liberals.
How do conservatives get their message out?
How can candidates as flawed as Obama and Hillary be the favorites of so many?
We can call the electorate ignorant but how would they ever learn the truth if all they watch or listen to is the MSM.
More and more I'm coming to the conclusion that if we could get equal time on the MSM the conservative message would resonate, just like it did when the country elected Ronald Reagan. (Under the Fairness Doctrine)

Disclaimer: I wouldn't expect the current crop of democrats to enact a really fair Fairness Doctrine, just wondering.

I've been thinking about this scenario for a while and think I may have come up with an effective counterattack. Conservative hosts could simply ask their audience to flood their local welfare offices to see how much they can get from the government.

We'll demand our piece of the pie.

Most conservatives that may be eligible for food stamps or other assistance still prefer to remain self-sufficient. If the left gains full control we could overload even the current government handout system, forcing them to drop plans to increase handouts.

Two words: Pirate Radio.

Also, digital cameras and recordable DVDs. The Russians called it “samizdat”, messages passed hand to hand, bypassing the government controlled media. They used mimeographs and homemade printing presses, but I think we can do a little better. This might even be a good thing, if it brings people face to face a little more often.
