His win is the best proof that it isn’t needed. If right wing talk radio has so much influence then how would he have won?

Who says that "Fairness" requires the dem's position be the balance for Rush's or Sean's? Maybe Rush could be balanced with the views of a monarchist or a proponent of feudalism.

Fairness has lots more sides than two.

‘NEWS’ programs were not subject to the old fairness doctrine.
ABC, CBS, NBC were thus exempt.

Rush could engineer his show to be the 3hr EIB newscast.
If they craft the bill to apply only to radio he could move the 3hr newscast to FOX NEWS. It would basically be what you see if you watch his 3hr webcam broadcast now.

If they shut down FreeRepublic we could go P2P and freeper land would exist in no single location...no servers that could be shut down. Initial linkup to the network could be done using several sources...ThePirateBay would be a nice one. Access to the network could be controlled by admins and powered cryptographically...so as to kill off troublemakers and enforce rules.

You would have to shut the internet down to kill off a well designed P2P app....there are simply too many ways to distribute the data.

"Well... Are you?"

Yes I am. If we lose this election, then it won't mean much to lose talk radio. Why? Because the election loss will prove that talk radio was of little or no effect.

That said, I don't think we'll lose because of talk radio.

Of all the things elected Democrats could do that is worrisome, the Fairness Doctrine isn’t one of them. If you really believe, in this media, age that political speech can be suppressed with some silly law, you’re smoking something. And besides, if the polls are to believed, Dems are fairing just fine in the age of Rush, Dennis, Michael and Hugh. Why would they upset the system that gave them absolute control of the federal government? If they want to try to pass silly, unconstitutional, and enforceable laws that will make martyrs out of their opposition, great!

At least we will be able to take down Air America using the same tactics (I know, big deal, it’s almost gone anyway), so that’s some small consolation.

The thing that worries me about that is, if they have to have conservatives on for equal time, their ratings will actually increase!
