WATCH WHAT YOU SAY AT YOUR WORKPLACE.......

Posted on 10/31/2008 10:55:30 PM PDT by Lisa_from Buckeye Country

I spoke out about all the Obama rhetoric spouted by my co-workers, now I'm out of a job.

where do you work where wearing political buttons and t-shirts is allowed?? Your work environment is a place of business - not a political rally. I’ve never worked in a place where any such nonsense is allowed.

My company runs smooth and is productive and profitable, but it should be noted we have no liberal employees.

Luckily I didn't get fired, but back in the mid 90s two people were always putting down Pope John Paul II. I never discussed religion. I'm a lapsed Catholic, but I got sick of biting my tongue, as they never put down any other religion. One was a Buddhist, who are supposed to accept everyone.
I finally lost it and went off on them. Got called into the office and explained what had happened. The boss was understanding (he had heard some of their comments) and they shut up (at least in my presence).

Another time several years later, there was a woman who was always making political comments. Similarly, I lost it, and got called into her bosses’ office. I found she had set off others too., but because of her race, they didn't want to fire her. She finally got canned when she started criticizing a lesbian fill-in receptionist we had.

I have no idea what type of job you had, but I would not necessarily link your termination to being anti-Obama. Many companies are shedding jobs due to the current economic conditions. Debating/promoting political views in the office can bring nothing but trouble!

That being said, feel free to FReepmail your resume!

Unfortunately, if obama is elected, this is just a taste of what is to come

That's what I'm so afraid of. I've never been afraid of speaking my opinion, politically in my life, until now. I guess it's racial thing, but I am not like that. Even growing up in Southern Ohio, I raised my children to not see the color of one's skin as an issue. I deplore Obama for his terrorist ties, as I would a Caucasian man/woman. This in a no win situation, and I've lost my job because of it. My livelihood.

Ditto, except I do speak up among peers on occasion

I am a straight white male conservative who works in a government office in the heart of downtown Detroit, I have no peers.

It’s not worth working for a company that can’t handle a variety of opinions. Move on. You’ll be happier elsewhere.

Then, after you have another job, tell the story on your previous employer forever. Give them a black eye with everyone you meet.

For the record, I wasn't terminated, I resigned.

Hard to just get out. My home in the ‘burbs is market valued $20,000 less than what I paid for it 16 years ago. Jennifer Grandtheft did say we here would be ‘blown away’ 3 years ago.

I work on a contract and when it's done I will be gone for a long while from Detroit.

Given what you said in your post, I would have already spent my last day there.

This is Detroit were talking about. I know the hood. I'm from there. If I felt that I just had to stay until the end of the contract, I'd be packing concealed every day until the end.

yep, I work in Detroit and if they even suspected that I was not an Obama worshipper I would be in a very vulnerable position. If I was lucky, I would get away with only vandalism to my car

Then just wait and see what will happen on Nov. 5th. when McCain/Palin wins. That will be a nightmare!!!

True, I found out the hard way that if they create a hostile enough work environment to get to you resign, you have almost no chance of collecting unemployment insurance.

Sad that a protected species is allowed/encouraged to be a predator in the general pop, and equally sad that the only way to stop said predation is combat with a different protected species that may also be a predator. The last few months have shown me just how deep the cancer has spread (and I was hardly a Pollyanna before).

Lisa, I know what a hostile workplace is like, although not a politically-driven one. Some days it can be a toss-up which is worse: staying or getting canned/leaving. My hope is twofold... one, that you come out of this in a better position than you left, and two, that I never - directly or inadvertently - contribute one thin dime to your ex-employer and their staff of kommissars.

Sounds like you have a good case to collect unemployment compensation. Apply and if they deny demand a hearing.
