"The Field Poll shows that Prop 8's deceptive campaign has failed to move their numbers much at all. Prop 8 is trying to run a campaign to get to a Yes vote, yet they have remained in this and other polls well below the 50 percent margin necessary for success. We are running a No campaign, and we are successfully keeping our opponents below 50 percent. "We are highly energized across the state and we believe this will be a close election. We reject any suggestion that there will be a last minute surge for Prop 8 in a year where California is expected to go overwhelmingly for Sen. Barack Obama.

I must say that any thread title that includes “gay” and “bad poll” throws up some warning flags.
LOL!
I tried “no-on-8” instead of “gay” but got caught on the 200 character title limit.

I’d like to see this pass 85/15 to put the issue to bed once and for all (as if it would). We’ll be seeing folks trying to legalize homosexual marriage until they get it. That’s the sad state of the affairs of this old world.

The beauty of it is it only needs 50% to become part of the State Constitution. If the pro-gay marriage crowd wants to try and take it out of the constitution in the future they will need a 2/3 majority.

It’ll be the usual 65% or so.
I would be surprised by either actually.
I’ll be happy if we can get 62% to vote against. When this was first put on the ballot, I had serious concerns if it would be rejected or not.
And yes, they’ll stop at nothing to find another way to get this passed.
I hope we don’t go down this road, but there are times when I can’t believe what our nation has already signed onto.
With apologies, I mean to say, “...wouldn’t be surprised by either” there.
I hope so.

But other than companion yard signs, what exaclty does Barack Obama have to do with the definition of marriage?
LOL. Hack Steve Smith fails to acknowledge that many of those Obama supporters in the African American and Hispanic communities are socially conservative and are strongly opposed to same sex marriage.
Hasn't Obama even said that he doesn't favor same sex marriage (or was it just that he opposes a Federal Marriage Amendment)?
I think Smith's PR announcement will actually motivate more folks to make sure Prop 8 passes. BACKFIRE!
P.S. Both Field and PPIC started releasing their polls to the media the night before they post them on their websites for public viewing. (Not sure if they give them to campaigns or if Smith got second-hand info from a friendly news source)

How many states have failed to pass gay “marriage” bans? Not many.
Even liberal states tend to pass bans with wide margins that are always missed by pollsters. It’s sort of a reverse Bradley Effect. People don’t want to tell a pollster that they are so unenlightened that they believe that marriage is between a man and a woman.
the previous marriage proposition passed easily in 2000, in a year in which Calif. went strongly for Al Gore. So there’s not necessarily a connection between Democratic voting and marriage amendments.
In 2004, 11 states voted for constitional amendments to define marriage, including some Kerry states. Even though homosexual marriage is a liberal cause, and Democrats are the liberal party, there are significant numbers of ordinary Democrats who oppose same-sex marriage.
I think there has been only one of these marriage amendments that failed to pass.
That is of states that actually got to vote on the issue. The Mass. legislature adjourned last year rather than authorize a vote on a marriage amendment in Massachusetts, even though a record number of citizen signatures requested such an amendment vote.
You gotta love Democrat politicians. In Mass. they adjourned rather than approve putting the amendment on the ballot. They were too cowardly to even vote on the matter.
