Bad News for Obama (The AP rips his informercial tonight)
AP ^ | Oct 29, 2008 | CALVIN WOODWARD

WASHINGTON (AP) - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama was less than upfront in his half-hour commercial Wednesday night about the costs of his programs and the crushing budget pressures he would face in office.

Obama's assertion that "I've offered spending cuts above and beyond" the expense of his promises is accepted only by his partisans. His vow to save money by "eliminating programs that don't work" masks his failure throughout the campaign to specify what those programs are - beyond the withdrawal of troops from Iraq.

A sampling of what voters heard in the ad, and what he didn't tell them:

THE SPIN: "That's why my health care plan includes improving information technology, requires coverage for preventive care and pre-existing conditions and lowers health care costs for the typical family by $2,500 a year."

THE FACTS: His plan does not lower premiums by $2,500, or any set amount. Obama hopes that by spending $50 billion over five years on electronic medical records and by improving access to proven disease management programs, among other steps, consumers will end up saving money. He uses an optimistic analysis to suggest cost reductions in national health care spending could amount to the equivalent of $2,500 for a family of four. Many economists are skeptical those savings can be achieved, but even if they are, it's not a certainty that every dollar would be passed on to consumers in the form of lower premiums.

Before it was a single filer making $200,000, not a Married Couple filing a joint Tax Return.

I guess Obama looked at his “after the election” notes by mistake.

Biden on the other hand, must have been looking at the “After the Inauguration” notes when he said families earning less than $150,000.

Can't wait to see the “first 100 days in office” notes.

Mrs. Obama has a perpetually angry looking face. It probably isn’t due to birth but rather disposition.

The media is now trying to reclaim its credibility by telling the truth for a change 6 days before the election.

May be they are coming out of their hypnotic state.

Obama hopes that by spending $50 billion over five years on electronic medical records and by improving access to proven disease management programs, among other steps, consumers will end up saving money.

1. Obama is elected.

2. Medical Records System is put out to bid.

3. Contract awarded

4. Development begins

5. Three years pass and development has stalled.

6. Another year passes and the project is declared a failure.

7. $50 Billion is written off.

8. Medical Records System is put out to bid.

i got this from a pal of mine via email this morning.....

An excellent tale of how the world works. Bar Stool Economics

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.
The fifth would pay $1.
The sixth would pay $3.
The seventh would pay $7.
The eighth would pay $12.
The ninth would pay $18.
The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.

The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. ‘Since you are all such good customers, he said, ‘I’m going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20. Drinks for the ten now cost just $80.

The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. But what about the other six men - the paying customers? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his ‘fair share?’
They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody’s share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer. So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man’s bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.

And so:

The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings).
The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33%savings).
The seventh now paid $5 instead of $7 (28%savings).
The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings).
The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% saving s).
The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings).

Each of the six was better off than before And the first four continued to drink for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings.

‘I only got a dollar out of the $20’, declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man,’ but he got $10!’

‘Yeah, that’s right’, exclaimed the fifth man. ‘I only saved a dollar, too. It’s unfair that he got ten times more than I!’

‘That’s true!!’ shouted the seventh man. ‘Why should he get $10 back when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!’

‘Wait a minute,’ yelled the first four men in unison. ‘We didn’t get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!’

The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.

The next night the tenth man didn’t show up for drinks, so the nine sat down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn’t have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill!

And that, boys and girls, journalists and college professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.

You send the IRS $33,000...

$33,000.00 out of $100,000.00 is the PROBLEM! McCain isn't giving anything back to me that isn't mine in the first place and then proceeds to dictate HOW I must spend it! He will still TAKE way too much of MY money. This is why we have this huge tax problem currently because people want to compare what's really bad with what's worse when both are absolutely thug theivery!

Your point is well taken, and I'm glad you made it, however it just PMO that we as American's allow the gov't to steal so much of our hard earned money so they can spend it on programs which are nothing but bad, failed experiments!

Thank you!! $33,000 is too damn much money. Give an average family most of their OWN $33K each year and they can take care of their children's education, buy good health insurance, save for their own retirement and generously support their CHOSEN charities.

“It’s not a real receipt.”

You’re right, it appears to be an online copy of a real receipt. Good eye :)

Who cares if it’s not true. Let’s go with “fake but accurate” and if it wins a few more votes, it was worth it. I’m tired of playing nice. Besides, SmokingGun and Snopes are unreliable much of the time.

I heard that from my brother this morning and scared the $hit out of me. Not that I doubted that this would happen.

My little Sis lives in Austin and has been riding the fence on 0 (she is an idealist and just a little left of center). I have talk to her this morning and the dollar change she heard last night made up her mind for her. Two days ago she wasn't sure she could trust him and wonder where all the money would come from for 0’s programs, now she knows.

There's enough real stuff to go after these louses on, using fake stuff to go after them is absolutely stupid.

The post really did retract this, and Mean Michelle wasn't in NY when this was supposed to have happened.

You probably shouldn't post that graphic since the original source posted a retraction 10/21.
