Hollywood insiders rip MSNBC, defend Palin
reuters.com ^ | October 27, 2008 | Paul Bond

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - In a room full of television industry executives, no one seemed inclined to defend MSNBC on Monday for what some were calling its lopsidedly liberal coverage of the presidential election.

The cable news channel is "completely out of control," said writer-producer Linda Bloodworth-Thomason, a self-proclaimed liberal Democrat.

She added that she would prefer a lunch date with right-leaning Fox News star Sean Hannity over left-leaning MSNBC star Keith Olbermann.

Olbermann was criticized by many who attended Monday's luncheon sponsored by the Caucus for Producers, Writers & Directors at the Beverly Hills Hotel. The event was dubbed "Hollywood, America and Election '08."

Bloodworth-Thomason and others seemed especially critical of the way MSNBC -- and other media -- has attacked Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin while demeaning her supporters.

"We should stop the demonizing," she said, adding that Democrats have been worse than Republicans as far as personal attacks on candidates are concerned. "It diminishes us," she said of her fellow Democrats.

Bloodworth-Thomason even suggested a defense of Palin and her supporters should be written into TV programing, just as she went out of her way to portray Southern women as smart in her hit TV show "Designing Women."

Attendee Michael Reagan, the radio talk-show host and son of President Ronald Reagan, said he no longer will appear as a guest on MSNBC because "I actually get death threats."

"I'll stop sending them," joked Larry Gelbart, the writer, producer and director best known for the "M*A*S*H" television series and such movie screenplays as "Tootsie" and "Oh, God!"

Oh, I thought “fawning sycopants” had something to do with little spotted deer babies, and lonely muslims. Sycophants? Well, that’s another thing entirely. Alrighty then.

Linda Bloodworth-Thomason is a big friend of the Clintons. Possibly a PUMA?

I've worked with her. Gender politics takes precedent even over the Clintons.

The Progressive channel of Spinner.com (now AOLmusic.com) played a lot of Spock’s Beard. Gave me character when I listened.

It really surprised me that "W" didn't blow up big at the box office. I figured the lefties would all make a huge push to go see it multiple times like they did for Michael Moore's piece of crap before the 2004 election. The media did everything to prop "W" up (claiming the performances "award worthy"), but it has really tanked.

Happy Happy, Joy Joy!

I understand the opposition research angle. I guess I just don’t have the time to pursue it!

>It’s kinda sad that it’s come to this- Clinton supporters are now considered “right wingers”. <

Not necessarily right wingers, but most definitely to the center when compared to Obama. Some of them are closer in thought to conservatives than we realize.

Rock on, PUMA’s!

It's a little late in the game to pretend the Media, on all levels, isn't in the tank for the Obamunnist, and we Southerners already knew how smart our women were, but if it makes her feel important, by all means encourage her to continue the delusions of grandeur.

agreed Luntz must be an idiot if he really believes that his group is undecided.

one of his groups recently I saw was mostly Dem and just kept saying the same usual bumper sticker Dem talking points when he questioned them.

Also FOX needs to get rid of Geraldo, shepherd smith and bring back E.D.Hill for fox and friends

I've never understood why so many Freepers like M*A*S*H. In that TV series, the Americans were the bad guys and the Red Chinese and North Koreans were the good guys.... it was a profoundly anti-American show.

Mike Farrell, the actor who played BJ, has been a leftie all these years.

I have no idea how you can watch MSNBC,NBC, they are so biased it becomes so irritable.

The last time I had to endure that channel at my mother in laws house I could not believe the lies, I just sat there astounded that they could not tell the truth about anything and just kept shouting at the TV that’s not true.

If I want to hear lies I’ll talk to my mother in law

If I recall correctly, Linda Bloodworth-Thomason and her husband were Bill Clinton’s media czars.

Bingo. It's not about being for Palin, it's about being against Obama. They'll lose their Clinton perks forever, and white Hollywood will have a new thing coming from O, both financially, content-wise and personally.
