McCain/Palin Poll Numbers Show Improvement in Michigan Prompting Bus Tour to Return to Michigan
* Rallies on Monday in Saginaw, Grand Blanc & Battle Creek *Rally on Tuesday in Hillsdale
[MICHIGAN] -- A federally registered independent political action committee supporting the McCain/Palin presidential ticket is returning to the Great Lakes State as internal polling shows some improvement for the McCain campaign in Michigan.
"The Stop Obama Tour" traversed the Upper and Lower Peninsula of Michigan from October 23-25 and was in Ohio at the house of "Joe the Plumber" (Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher) when the positive polling news was received.
As a result, the Our Country Deserves Better Committee (website: www.OurCountryDeservesBetter.com ) has canceled planned events in Ohio and Pennsylvania to add Monday rallies in Saginaw, Grand Blanc & Battle Creek and a Tuesday morning rally in Hillsdale.
"We are so excited to see the reversal in the poll numbers for John McCain and Sarah Palin in Michigan," said Deborah Johns, a Marine Mom who is a spokesperson for the Our Country Deserves Better Committee.
"We're still a bit behind and we have a lot of work to do, but we are feeling very optimistic about the momentum that has started to build," Johns said.
The Our Country Deserves Better Committee will also continue running its television advertising campaign against Barack Obama and in support of the McCain/Palin ticket.
"Our message to the people of Michigan is that we won't give up the fight to have John McCain win this state, so long as you don't give up fighting either," Johns said.

That city is such a disgusting embarrassment. It should be leveled forever.
My husband is the TV watcher in our house. Right now he can only stand to watch TCM. There are no commercials during the movies!
I wonder if the new photo ID requirement will improve the validity of this statistic this election?
> In any other sane city, those buildings would have been removed. But in Detroit they just stay there as a blight for decades.
The dead people need valid addresses to vote, ya know.
I never thought of it like that. Good point.
How are things looking for Walberg? I read on another thread a couple days ago that his race was a little closer than expected. It would be sad to lose a real conservative from the MI delegation. There are a couple of good ones, but there are also too many rats and RINO's (e.g. Freddie Upton from Dist 6). My hometown (Niles, over north of South Bend) has become a rat stronghold in Presidential elections. When I was growing up that would have been unthinkable. St Joe is still pretty republican, but the southern part of the district is pretty much blue now.
I hope Walberg pulls it out.
You know, I have some friends around Wayland and Dorr, and they have exactly the same accent as Sarah has. They're not Yoopers either, just salt-of-the-earth types. I always thought if Sarah had spent more time stumping in the state, especially on the western side, McCain could have made some headway against the Detroillet fraud monster. Sarah is such a perfect fit culturally with folks on that side of the state.
I spent a couple of years at Sacred Heart Seminary a few years back and I know what you mean. The Seminary itself is a colossal, grand edifice between 10 and 96, but the area that surrounds it is indescribable. There used to be a nice, upscale neighborhood for Jewish professionals to the east. The houses were all English-style, very dignified looking. Most still remain, but every 7th or 8th house has the windows boarded up or tarp stretched over the burned up remains of the ceiling.
Very distressing, but to the west it's even worse, a classic urban jungle. You have some of the biggest crack dens in the city. On my last day at the seminary, some guy flipped his lid and started walking down the street shooting people. He killed two. This all took place within 2-3 blocks of Sacred Heart. Some nights when it was warm enough to keep the windows open you could hear drive-by-shootings and outright gunfights. Sometimes I felt as though I were back in the Persian Gulf War. No kidding! Unbelievably sad.
There are so many good people at the Seminary. Really terrific priests, professors, and seminarians. They are trying their darndest to resurrect the Church in Detroit. I really do fear for their safety come November 4, especially if the democratic "messiah" loses.
Detroit died in 1967 after the riots and has never risen again. Ironically, before those riots Detroit was considered "the City on the Go" -- national media outlets considered it a model city for urban renewal and race relations. And then that summer saw the worst race riot in the nation's history. Eventually the Los Angeles riots topped Detroit as the most destructive. But LA bounced back. Detroit never did.
Yes, Detroit used to be one of the most beautiful and livable cities in the U.S. It was once called the "City of Churches," wasn't it? You can still see that beauty amid the blight. In most cities, you have pockets of blight with surrounding areas of prosperity. In Detroit, you a have sea of devestation with pockets of prosperity. I remember every Friday after classes I'd drive from the seminary out to Royal Oak or Dearborn just to find a coffee shop and remember what civilization liked like.
The city never seems to hit bottom either. There's never any moment of "clarity," as alcohalics put it. Detroit has got to be the most reactionary liberal city in the U.S. Although certain improvements have been made in recent years, living there is like being stuck in the '70's. No matter how bad it gets, they never seem to turn things around. Doubly sad, because it was once such a beautiful, civilized place.
And Mayor Jerome Kavanaugh was being touted as the "next John Kennedy." A raid on a blind pig at 5AM changed his life (and that of Detroit) forever.
All these true-believing liberals that thought massive welfare payments and endless gov’t “anti-poverty” programs would somehow make (or keep) these cities great... We could’ve run armies through these places and not caused a fraction of the damage.
I think Walberg will win without too much trouble. Schauer was one that pushed through all those tax increases and he’s just too liberal for the 7th district.
If you would like to be added or dropped from the Michigan ping list, please freepmail me.
Should help GOTV efforts. Meanwhile, Barry the Marxist is partying with supporters and writing his inaugral speech. reminds me of the fighter Mas in Cinderella Man, Max the unbeatable was beaten.
Interesting thread (read every post). Thanks for the ping.
SARAH PALIN was RIGHT!!!!!!!! Evidently she’s not as stupid as previously thought.
Go SARAH!!!
Go Team PALIN!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (for extra emphasis!)
This is great! 0bama ads on tv all the time here in Michigan. With 0bama spending ad $$$ non-stop in Michigan, and McCain spending almost $0 the past month, McCain is gaining!? I hope so.
It would be great for McCain to swoop back into Michigan with fury.
“A Michigan voter who has seen what a Democratic governor and Democratic Detroit mayor has done to ruin the states economy would have to be a moron to vote for any Democrat.”
I’ve been saying this nonstop. It’s true. But, don’t underestimate the stupidity of many Michigan voters, unfortunately. Short-sighted Unions and Detroit crooks bring my state down.
