McCain volunteer given polygraph over attack claim

PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh police say they gave a polygraph test to a McCain campaign volunteer who reported that a tall black man had robbed and later cut her face her after seeing a McCain bumper sticker on her car.

Police spokeswoman Diane Richard says investigators are "looking at some inconsistencies" in the 20-year-old woman's story.

Supposedly the attack happened out of range of the cameras.

After I saw the pictures my belief waned, too. The “B” was just a little too neat to be scratched in by a deranged attacker.

I’d like to know who saw her last prior to the attack to confirm it wasn’t a prior injury. I’d also like to know of what the tape(s) show of the assault - there was more than one camera in the area per the video link to a TV station in Pittsburg. The new detail about previous robberys in the same area w/a man matching the same description is interesting too. The PD needs to release the report and results of the polygraph ASAP!

Folks, let’s give this gal some benefit of the doubt. As far as we know, she is a reputable campaign volunteer. The police are trying to shake her story, which I guess is their job. But inconsistencies are quite understandable in such a situation. It bothers me that the media and blog frenzy seems to be picking up where the attacker left off.

The woman's own account of how her face came to be marked-the attacker was facing her:

Ms. Todd told police during at least five hours of questioning last night that her attacker said to her, "You are going to be a Barack supporter." She told police the man then sat on her chest, pinning both her hands down with his knees and used what she believed was a dull knife with a roughly 5-inch blade to carve the B.

Speaking to Channel 4 Action News on Friday, Richard said they’re still questioning Todd because of some new developments.

“We have learned that the victim’s statement has a few inconsistencies in it and her statement has changed,” said Richard

Richard said Todd now says she isn’t sure if it was a bumper sticker on her car or a campaign button on her jacket that angered the attacker. Richard said Todd added new details to the attack, saying at one point she lost consciousness.

“She also indicated she was sexually assaulted as well. She indicated that when he had her on the ground he put his hand up her blouse and started fondling her. But other than that, she says she doesn’t remember anything else. So we’re adding a sexual assault to this as well,” Richard said.

Police said they gave a polygraph test to Todd, but they aren’t releasing the results.

I'm surprised she didn't ask to delay a polygraph. You would think the emotions of being mugged could cause problems and if it was a hoax she would beg to delay it.

That said, what if by some small chance she is telling the truth and agreed to take the polygraph right away to prove she isnt lying?
