STRAPHANGERS DIVE FOR COVER IN RUSH-HOUR CHAOS
A fare-beater caught sneaking into a Queens subway last night coldly shot two cops with one of their own guns after he knocked them to the station-platform floor, authorities said.
The gunman then bolted - weapon still blazing at the wounded Anti Crime transit cops - and ran into a lieutenant who dodged the suspect's bullets and pumped four of his own into him.
The heart-pounding, rush-hour shootout at 5:15 p.m. had straphangers ducking for cover at the F-train station at 21st Street/Queensbridge in Long Island City.
The shower of bullets lasted less than a minute, Commissioner Ray Kelly said.
Undercover Officer Shane Farina, 38, was critically wounded by a bullet that slammed into his side below his bulletproof vest.
He had surgery at Elmhurst Hospital but later was giving a thumbs up to those around him, a hospital spokesman said. He was in serious but stable condition.
Partner Jason Maass, 28, also wearing a vest, was grazed in the back. He left the hospital last night but not before stopping by to check on his partner.
"Two brave police officers were shot by a suspect they were attempting to apprehend in the course of doing their job keeping us all safe," Mayor Bloomberg said at the hospital, where he, Kelly and Queens District Attorney Richard Brown rushed to comfort the heroes and their families.
"This could have been so much worse. These officers are very lucky," Bloomberg added.
Suspect Raul Nuñez, 32 - who sneaked back into the United State after he was deported to his native Dominican Republic in 2001 for a 1997 drug conviction - was at Bellevue Hospital with gunshot wounds to the legs and torso. He faces attempted-murder charges.

Weapon Retention Training.
They’re going to use these type of shootings (cops shot with their own guns) to force all of us to have “Smart Gun” technology that will endanger our lives.
Except the cops.
Every “Smart Gun” law has an exception for cops.
Go figure.
What are you talking about? The cop lost his gun and then got shot with same gun.
Pathetic! When I was a kid growing up in Queens, at age 9 my parents and my 11 year old best friend’s parents let us take the subway into Manhattan ALONE. No one gave it a thought then. One brother took the subway to school in lower Manhattan and the other to school in Harlem every single day. No worries. People’s jaws drop when I tell that story now. Man, am I old!
Now if NYC had CWPs(concealed weapon permits)as the vast majority of states do, armed citizens would have taken care of these POS.
Adrenalin can assist the hand to hand fighter but it's hell on a shooters accuracy
FWIW...the Med Bills of all involved here will probably be 7 figures....all because of the failure of the Feds to perform their Constitutional obligation to the states....
Did you have to do that, now I feel inadequate with my .32 mag. I chose it because it had six shots, versus 5 for the .38/.357 and I didn’t want to light up a light short barreled .357 anyway. Now you come up with THAT. I used to have a .357 Colt Trooper with a 4” barrel and that was bad enough.
The lieutenant who shot him will undoubtedly be sued by the ACLU. Racism, you know.
I rode the subways pretty much daily from the age of thirteen until I retired in 1999.
it's a pretty decent round, imho. if you're gonna say anything about power, then question our use of 9mm!
From my reading of it, the perp knocked the police officer's gun to the floor. This happened because they weren't watching him carefully enough. Strange, however, that the article says he knocked "them" to the ground. Does this mean *both* of the officers' guns, or that he knocked *both* of the officers to the ground? Neither case should have been possible.
From the article: "A fare-beater caught sneaking into a Queens subway last night coldly shot two cops with one of their own guns after he knocked them to the station-platform floor, authorities said."
True enough. Problem is not the POS will be sueing for damages instead of be deported ...again.
This is why you make illegal re-entry after deportation a capital crime.
"The crackling burst of violence occurred after Nuñez swiped a student MetroCard, setting off an alarm in the token booth on the upper level where Abrahall was stationed, authorities said.
Abrahall radioed Maass and Farina about the fare-beater, and the two cops grabbed Nuñez and got one handcuff on him. He immediately began to struggle, and knocked them to the ground.
In the scuffle, a source said, Maass' gun fell to the platform and Nuñez grabbed it. He then stood over the two cops and fired two pointblank shots at them, a source said.
Racing from the bloodshed, Nuñez headed up an escalator, turning back to fire another shot at the wounded cops. But Abrahall was waiting at the top. Though Nuñez fired three times at the lieutenant, he missed, and Abrahall hit Nuñez four times."

44 MAG.
No one Walks Away.
And besides, you can shoot engines with it.
So, you’re saying the bad guy took four rounds of +P hollow point and he’s still around?
Maybe *I* need to upgrade ;)
He didn’t hit any innocent bystanders and hit the suspect several times. Good shooting in anyone’s book.
If this POS can’t get a NYC jury to call shots 3 and 4 ‘over kill’ and ‘racist’ to boot then I don’t know anything. But for the record, if this cop jinked away from perp lead AND THEN fired four shots that hit the dude, well, atta’ boy and my hat’s off! Serious pair of balls here!
9mm+P x Poor Placement = Injured bystander
