ELECTION REJECTION: NETWORK NEWS SLUMPS; VIEWERSHIP FADES
Wed Oct 22 2008 07:25:40 ET
The Obama-McCain match-up is proving to be a lackluster election ticket for the Big 3 network news programs, according to NIELSEN MEDIA RESEARCH.
As the shouting from the trail and the frantic spinning from the anchor desks intensify, the audience is voting with their remotes.
All 3 evening news shows experienced audience drops year-to-year for the week of Oct. 13-19, 2008.
CBSNEWS w/ Couric shed a half a million viewers, falling from 6.4 million to 5.9 million; ABCNEWS dropped from 8.1 million to 7.6 million; NBCNEWS slumped from 8.2 million to 7.8 million.
All these indicators points away from Obama- but instead we are to believe he is winning.
Hmmm. This is the most exciting election in a long while and the networks say its the boring election that is causing their ills.
It can’t be the garbage they’re spewing....
they still don’t get it.
It’s probably that people are more engaged with their home life, work and families at this time of year. Plus TiVO has changed the way we watch TV............
If true, this is a good sign. It might indicate that the electorate is tired of the MSM’s bullcrap and is willing to make up its own mind.
Dinosaur ping
Does anyone know how Fox News ratings have been doing this election cycle?
I have gotten so sick of the uplifting reports on O and the negative reporting towards McCain/Palin. I hope others feel the same way.
It couldn’t possibly be because they are nothing more than mouth pieces for B.Husssein’s talking points, could it? Nah, of course not.
That trend will continue because of the public’s rejection of their propaganda. Then the Left will go after the internet and talk radio, the publics choice for news, and silence them. Before too many years we will have only official government news, ala Tass and Pravada. What we want is not what we will get if the Democrts are elected.
That is why they must steal elections and force their views and policies on us.
Fox and CNN are on all day. The viewers can tune in when they want not just at 6:30.
The probability they aren’t paying attention doesn’t cut it.
The thought they are getting news from the internet doesn’t wash either. The net work news viewers were not the internet only types. They were mostly at the older end of the age spectrum. They have abandoned the networks for cable.
Holy crap!!! I just did the math. The three major network news shows now get about the same number of viewers (~20 million) that Rush Limbaugh gets listeners. I never thought I’d see that happen.
“Then the Left will go after the internet and talk radio, the publics choice for news, and silence them.”
I TOTALLY agree with that.
They still have 22 million viewers.
And I’m sure we’ve all encountered some of these dweebs.
They are absolutely impossible to reach.
And DirecTV or DishNetwork............
his massive ad campaign and 1/2 hour interruption into baseball season is going to backfire like Germany backfired.
This is no surprise. People are bored with them. Their Obama good-McCain-bad mantra is stale. Without even fair minded coverage their is nothing left to watch from these people.
The MSM being in total collaboration with the Obama camp has shown what life will be under Obama. Why watch the media when you know it will be total Obama okay coverage? People know they lie and whatever they say is not trustworthy.
I also wonder what Rush’s/Hannity’s radio numbers have done during election season.
When the mainstream media comes on my t.v. I turn it off. No reason to watch propaganda and bias.
FOX news is it and even they at fox rile me at times.
The media ratings are sinking like the TITANIC as people use their remotes to send a message to all the graduates of the Joseph Goebbels School of Journalism.
The message: “YOU ARE NO LONGER CAPABLE OR WILLING TO DO YOUR JOB. YOU ARE FIRED!!”
The same holds true with the PRINT media.
It boils down to three simple words,” Your are FIRED”
