WASHINGTON (AP) -- Al-Qaida supporters suggested in a Web site message this week they would welcome a pre-election terror attack on the U.S. as a way to usher in a McCain presidency.
The message, posted Monday on the password-protected al-Hesbah Web site, said if al-Qaida wants to exhaust the United States militarily and economically, "impetuous" Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain is the better choice because he is more likely to continue the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
"This requires presence of an impetuous American leader such as McCain, who pledged to continue the war till the last American soldier," the message said. "Then, al-Qaida will have to support McCain in the coming elections so that he continues the failing march of his predecessor, Bush."
SITE Intelligence Group, based in Bethesda, Md., monitors the Web site and translated the message.
"If al-Qaida carries out a big operation against American interests," the message said, "this act will be support of McCain because it will push the Americans deliberately to vote for McCain so that he takes revenge for them against al-Qaida. Al-Qaida then will succeed in exhausting America till its last year in it."
Mark Salter, a senior McCain adviser, said he had heard about the Web site chatter but had no immediate comment.
The message is credited to a frequent and apparently respected contributor named Muhammad Haafid. However, Haafid is not believed to have a direct affiliation with al-Qaida plans or knowledge of its operations, according to SITE.
SITE senior analyst Adam Raisman said this message caught SITE's attention because there has been little other chatter on the forums about the U.S. election.
SITE was struck by the message's detailed analysis - and apparent jubilation - about American financial woes.
"What we try to do is get the pulse of the jihadist community," Raisman said. "And it's about the financial crisis."
Al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden issued a videotape just four days before the 2004 U.S. presidential election directly addressing the American people.
This would get reported by AP where other terrorist support for 0bama doesn’t.
HAHA, they’re trying to get Obama elected.
We’re winning in Iraq.
Easily explained: Al Queda gave their ‘support’ to Kerry last time, and it basically was one of the factors that helped sink Kerry. Thus, this time, they decide to try the inverse approach and ‘endorse’ someone that they do not like (McCain), in the hope that it will have the same effect on him that it had on Kerry.

So they finally figured out that America is inclined to do the opposite of what they want.
But now that we know that they know that, their intention of helping 0bama by claiming to prefer McCain is obvious.
And of course the seditious AP had the password.
Racists.
AP may have it too, but I believe they got thrie story from SITE Intelligence Group, based in Bethesda, Md., who monitors the Web site and translated the message.
I think AL-Qaida wants a McCain presidency so they can surrender to Mrs. Sarah Palin.
I understand that clearly as an OSABAMA’s backing!
McCAIN would exhauste USA and help Al Q. to succeed....
You don’t call that a support?
A good reason to STOP OSAMABAMA who would open the doors and have direct talks with Ben Larden
Those Al Qaid men are really stupid.
There lame support for OSAMABAMA will help McCAIN .
Thank you Al Qaid ! Now SHUT UP
This means Muhammad Haafid is a Democrat activist -- um, community organizer.
;-)
Right.
In other words, these guys are saying that they believe McCain will remain on the offensive in the WOT and will fight to win, and 0bama would retreat. It’s cute how these guys claim to think they will be victorious in a head to head battle with the US, though. I suppose you can’t fault them for their optimism.
They are saving the October 5urprise: Shirley Maclaine will confirm that the ghost of hitler endorses McCain/Palin.
“But now that we know that they know that, their intention of helping 0bama by claiming to prefer McCain is obvious.”
“Inconceivable!”
Stewie already did that on Family Guy this weekend.
this is insane.
