HENDERSON, Nev. -- Extolling the virtues of equal pay and opportunity for women, this afternoon GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin framed her White House quest in terms of feminist values.
"I have a question for the women in the audience," the Alaska governor began her speech here at the Henderson Pavillion, underneath an arching white tent. "Are you willing to break the highest, hardest glass ceiling in America?"
Palin surrounded herself onstage with two higher-profile defectors from Sen. Hillary Clinton's camp -- Lynn Rothschild, a member of the Democratic Platform Committee, and Elaine Lafferty, a former editor-in-chief of Ms. Magazine -- along with Shelly Mandell, the president of the Los Angeles chapter of the National Organization for Women, Linda Klinge, the vice president of Oregon's NOW chapter and Prameela Bartholomeusz, a small business owner and member of the Democratic National Platform Committee. The L.A. chapter of NOW has endorsed Palin's bid.
"Our opponents think they have the women's vote all locked up, which is a little presumptuous," she said, as the crowd's roar of approval drowned her out. "A little presumptuous, and only our side has a woman on the ticket."
Palin went on to suggest Obama discriminated against women employees in his own Senate office, as opposed to GOP presidential nominee John McCain.
"I know one senator who does pay women equal pay," she added, referring to McCain.
While she credited feminists with the enactment of Title IX -- saying, "We owed that opportunity to women, to feminists who came before us" -- Palin quickly emphasized that Americans who embraced a different ideology could also push for gender equality. "A belief in equal opportunity is not just the cause of feminists. It's the creed of our country."

Vote for Obama then. We don’t need you to win your state.
Yea but - I meant it should have been mentioned earlier in the campaign. There was also a brief moment in either the second or third debate when equal pay was brought up. I wonder if McCain even knew the advantage he had on the subject.
Pray for W, Gov Palin and Our Troops
Every seat in the pavilion was filled. Beyond the pavilion seating is a grassy hill that accommodated a huge number of supporters. There were very long lines to get in. In fact, I wasn't sure I would be able to get into the pavilion in time to see Sarah, but I finally made it in. Lee Greenwood was there too and sang “I'm Proud To Be An American”. Somehow I don't think they sing that at Obama rallies.
Re: the Democrat women on stage that were there in support of Palin & McCain, we all cheered!
If Palin were the feminazi ideal she would have aborted here Downs baby and perhaps the others as well. But she is among that small percentage of mothers who understand the value of all human life.
Sarah is a great one even if she is using a bit of silly rhetoric in casting for disgruntled women who voted for the Hildabeast.
If you don't like Palin, that is your perogative. Don't vote for her. Or McCain by extension. By all means...make your vote count. I hear that 0bama guy supports real Amerikan values...
“I’d ask that the last conservative out of the GOP please turn off the lights, but I do believe that I’m making the request rather too late....”
It’s funny, if you do a keyword search of “titleix” on Free Republic, you will find many threads critical of Title IX. It looks like we have a lot of mindless Palin-bots on FR who don’t bother to look carefully at the substance of what their heroine is saying.
I’d still much rather have her as president than Obama, even if she is wrong about a few relatively minor issues.
No, she’s been supporting Title IX all along, even before she joined the ticket. Mostly everyone here has been turning a blind eye to these little differences. They’re convinced she “brings conservatism to the ticket.” Then, when she says these things, they blame McCain. But, that’s her talking. That’s who she is.
She’s only the VP nominee. I would be willing to overlook these differences I have with her, too, if only it were politically correct among conservatives to question her without being accused of “sexism”. That some of us cannot even point out these differences without being accused of supporting the other party tells me the GOP is headed downhill, too.
Title 9 was about WAY more than sports. People really need to become better informed about the Act. When they tie it to just sports I can tell they are just parroting what they’ve heard from cobbled together sources.
It was needed at the time because so many avenues in PUBLIC education were closed do girls/women at the time. Not just sports, but actual academic and vocation opportunites.
Since then things have changed dramatically. I doubt we would have a Sarah Palin today if it were not for Title 9 ... but it is NOT about sports.
You’d better be careful. I’d never vote for Obama but McCain has let a lot of illegal aliens get registered in Arizona.
Arizona:
“McCain had a 7 percentage-point lead over Obama in the last poll for KAET-TV (Channel 8) and the Cronkite school, released Sept. 30, compared with a 10-point spread a month earlier. About 16 percent were undecided.”
even if obamao wins,
palin will remain a thorn in their side!
Sarah Palin on combining motherhood with a career: To any critics who say a woman cant think and work and carry a baby at the same time, Id just like to escort that Neanderthal back to the cave.
Sarah Palin on her ability to govern Alaska while raising children: My answer would always be that Im going to do the job just as well as any male governor who had kids, you know, I think we can handle this.
Thanks for the responses.
I seriously thought about flying over for the day. The way my luck goes tho I wouldn’t have been able to get in to see her anyway. Seems to me she’s been packing the houses every place she goes.
Thank you for your post, glad to see Title 9 defended.
Yes Palin is clearly a huge flaming liberal the whole party is clearly making a tectonic shift to the left. /s
If the media drones say 7 k in attendance it must be 10 or 12..
It tells me that it's pretty much reached the bottom of the hill, and sunk into the mire of anti-American identity-politics divisiveness.
It's about quite a wide range of Big Brother Government, yes.
This articles talks about how Palin spoke with Hillary supporterLynn Rothschild, Shelly Mandell, a leader of the NOW of LA (the article mispoke about them supporting Palin, it's marked it out) And she exposes the truth on how much Obama pays the woman staff. Great article though, I'll let you decide
Heads up though, this ping list will probably become much more of a high ping list, (mostly cause monitoring the news is very important for one of my classes) but I'll try to resist my instincts not to ping every article, just the good ones.
