Obama angry at FOX for tarnishing halo effect
One News Now ^ | October 20, 2008 | Chad Groening

Posted on 10/20/2008 2:01:01 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

A conservative media watchdog says it's outrageous that Barack Obama is blaming a major cable news service for costing him two to three points in the polls.

In a recently published interview for the New York Times Magazine, the Democratic presidential candidate said: "I'm convinced that if there were no FOX News, I might be two or three points higher in the polls. If I were watching FOX News, I wouldn't vote for me, right? Because the way I'm portrayed 24/7 is as a freak!"

The Illinois senator continued, explaining that he is being typecast as "the latte-sipping, New York Times-reading, Volvo-driving, no-gun-owning, effete, politically correct, arrogant liberal. Who wants somebody like that?"

Seton Motley, director of communications at the Media Research Center (MRC), says Obama's lashing out is evidence he cannot stand the idea that FOX News does not worship him like the majority of the mainstream media do.

"He's gotten unabashed, loving coverage from all three broadcast networks, the vast majority of the cable news networks, and every print publication you can imagine," says Motley. "It has been wall-to-wall glowing coverage."

FOX News, says Motley, has the "audacity to report on [Obama] as he is and quote him verbatim" -- and somehow, adds the MRC spokesman, the presidential hopeful credits that for a downtick of two or three percent in his polling. "[For him to single-out FOX News is] just a staggeringly myopic view of the media and how he's been treated during his presidential run," he says.

In contrast, Motley suggests that if not for the pro-Obama bias of The New York Times and the rest of the mainstream media, John McCain would be up 20 percent.

The only REAL American on the entire network is Sean Hannity.

Greta hasn't been in the tank for the 0 either. In fact, I'd say that she's been pretty much pro-Palin.

I am sure there are a few others, but Sean is really the only upstanding citizen on a regular basis.

Megyn Kelly.

Thank you for reminding me of Greta's service.

I wrongly forgot to include Laura Ingraham also!

Thank you!

I don't watch much during the day, but I agree with your assessment.

The critical thing for Obama to remember is that there are quite a few idiots on FNC that kiss his feet regularly.

Megyn Kelly, Laura Ingraham, Greta Van Sustern and Sean Hannity clearly are not in that camp.

I turn the TV off once "Special Report" is over at 6 PM CST, and tune back in for Sean at 8 PM CST.

Shepard and Baxter's defense of Obama are the last things I want to see during the evening.

Watch how anyone is treated who goes on FOX and says Hussein. And Obama thinks FOX is misleading viewers on his elitism? Did FOX report the caviar snack at the Waldorf?

I hate this man!

Well, if polls are correct, roughly 90% of Democrats.

I tuned into FNC after the debate (I watched the debate in HD) to get some talking heads analysis. I couldn’t believe the crap I was hearing. “Fair and balanced” my @$$. Those people (Brit Hume included) were watching a different debate than I was. All kinds of head-shaking over McCain’s performance, all the “missed opportunities,” etc., yet they praised the calm and composed Messiah who was so visibly flustered that it looked like he was about to snap and start machine-gunning people for most of the debate!

In 2005, Business Week said Illinois' 5 pension funds were $35 billion in debt, and that was three years ago!

Take Illinois. The fifth-wealthiest state in total income, Illinois nevertheless has a 30-year history of shirking its pension promises. According to an analysis by the Civic Federation, a Chicago research group sponsored by the business community, since 1970 Illinois has not once paid its annual pension bill in full. Over the next 40 years the state will have to contribute $275.1 billion if it is to reach its goal of 90% funding -- and that's presuming no benefit changes are made. Through bull markets, bear markets, and sideways markets, the state has consistently lagged, and over time those delays have become more and more expensive. The culprit: reverse compounding. A pension plan's obligations are determined in part by the expected investment return on its assets. In the case of Illinois, that is 8%. So for every dollar not added to assets in time, the state is effectively borrowing from the pension plan at 8% interest. That's a high price in today's market, where municipal bonds typically pay closer to 6%. Illinois Governor Rod R. Blagojevich says that if the state follows its current spending plan, it will have paid $220 billion in interest before it fills the hole.

After 30 years of the state's procrastination, the pension burden has grown backbreaking. Illinois' five pension funds are $35 billion in the red, a serious shortfall for a state with a general operating budget of $43 billion this year. Illinois owes $2.6 billion this year, and within five years that will reach $4 billion annually. By comparison the state will spend $5.9 billion total on kindergarten through 12th-grade education next year. "If we were a business we wouldn't be in Chapter 11, we'd be in Chapter 13," says Ralph M. Martire, executive director of the Center for Tax & Budget Accountability, a Chicago-based nonprofit think tank. "We'd have to liquidate." Illinois is not a fast-growing state that can hope that future population and tax growth will bail it out. D'Arcy of the University of Illinois calculates that Illinois should be 97%-funded based on the rate of its income growth. Instead, retirement funds are 62%-funded.

I can’t help it but every time I see Obama’s emblem, it looks like the sun setting over a flag-draped coffin. I even sent an email to his web page stating that I found it disturbing. I sent my e-mail under the “rumors” category hoping someone would read it. My son in a Marine and I want them to know how creepy it is.
