How to Read the Constitution - Clarence Thomas
Wall Street Journal ^ | 10/20/2008 | Clarence Thomas

"Today, we live in a far different environment. My generation, the self-indulgent "me" generation, has had a profound effect on much around us. Rarely do we hear a message of sacrifice -- unless it is a justification for more taxation and transfers of wealth to others. Nor do we hear from leaders or politicians the message that there is something larger and more important than the government providing for all of our needs and wants -- large and small. The message today seems more like: Ask not what you can do for yourselves or your country, but what your country must do for you.

Read the dead tree version this morning - very very good.

I have a biblical comment on judges:

Judges are enjoined from “showing favoritism” either to the rich OR TO THE POOR.

This is EXACTLY OPPOSITE 0bama’s view on judges - that they should be compassionate to the poor (and show favoritism to them).

SUPRISE, SUPRISE, SUPRISE - 0bama, once again, goes against Biblical truth.

The best Justice we have on the SCOTUS, IMHO.

My pleasure. I’m very busy right now, but this I could not pass up; it changed my schedule for the day.

Excellent piece by CT. I cannot believe the link to this piece by Noonan!

In the end the Palin candidacy is a symptom and expression of a new vulgarization in American politics.

ms noonan is looking in the wrong places. All she needs to do is look at what Sarah Palin did in her jobs, not on the stages of politics.

Peggy, you have missed it. The proof is in the pudding, not the presentation. You need to either refresh your surroundings or retire and enjoy life with a Pina Colada in your hand.

Obama is Chrislamic. His presentation is Christian, his soul is Islam....possibly Democratic-Islamic.....we may have a new national religion here.

even the most conscientious effort to adhere to the original intent of the framers of our Constitution is flawed, as all methodologies and human institutions are; but at least originalism has the advantage of being legitimate and, I might add, impartial.

A good article by a good and honorable man. Thanks for posting.

For those who know how to read worldviews - CT’s worldview is RIGHT.

All mankind is inherently flawed (sinners) and all institutions of man will be flawed. The secret to living with flawed institutions is limiting their power over individuals.

The left doesn’t have a truthful (Biblical) worldview, and sees man as perfectable, if only the right institutions are given enough power.

“You need to either refresh your surroundings or retire and enjoy life with a Pina Colada in your hand.”

Maybe the Pina Colada is ALREADY in her hand, and that’s what’s causing her perception to be so skewed.

“My generation, the self-indulgent “me” generation, has had a profound effect on much around us. Rarely do we hear a message of sacrifice”

I love Clarence Thomas, but he never served in the military and seems (like every one else) to overlook the 9.4 million veterans of his generation that did serve.

Tens of thousands of his generation gave their lives for our nation, their level of enlistment (yes, volunteering) may never be equaled again.

His generation is still very proud of it’s accomplished members, Clarence Thomas and Governor Sarah Palin.
