Who cares what he thinks?

Probably a lot of non-conservative voters who have a favorable impression of Powell.

My problem with Powell his that he talked Bush 41 out of completing the job in Iraq before we were finished. Had we been allowed to complete the mission, 09-11-01 might not have occurred. We would not be in Iraq now. It was a big mistake to stop Desert Storm. We were on a roll. JMHO.

The left does and that is why we should care. Why do you think he was a bad general? The left cares what he thinks and the media will make us all care if they get their deluded wish.
He will endorse John McCain or not endorse at all. That is my prediction.

It’s still better to have his endorsement.

Any former Bush administration cabinet member endorsement of Obama is a bad thing.

I am going to differ with this view. Conservative threw him under the bus because of Iraq. The problem is that the neocons had no plan for the war, and folks like Powell who stood up for doing it right or not at all were besmirched by folks like us. It turns out that he was right, we needed a lot more force than we went in with, and as a consequence we lost a lot of lives unnecessarily burned through a lot of treasure and political capital, and have only just managed to pull it off when it is too late to save the political ball game.

So no, I think we owe Powell an apology actually.

A lot of people think a lot more of Colin Powell than you do and there are a lot of people who may care what he thinks.

We may not like that but it is true.

Actually he was a good general. His “overwhelming force” policy would have prevented a lot of harm that has happened in Iraq.

I agree, but the “drive by’s” will make anything with it to keep this crap going for the next 2 wks. He did advise Obama some in the primary. Who cares. He’s a liberal.

To be forthright and honest I have to say I’m retired military. Did not serve with Gen Powell, but have known a couple of people who were in proximity to him. Their opinion of him is top drawer.

Personally, I think Bush treated Powell badly. Sure as heck left him high and dry after Powell’s UN Iraq speech. Powell did not leave the Bush Administraton because he objected to the Iraq war—IMO. He left because of the minimalist way it was being fought. Powell was a product of the Vietnam war and he coined something called the “Powell Doctrine”. It’s two main premises are: 1. Going to war requires political support from both parties. 2. Once the decision to go to war was taken the President and the country must engage the enemy with immediate and overwhelming force. The object: End the war as soon as possible.

Certainly the first element was met when a majority of Republicans and Democrats signed the war resolution. That many dems, subsequently withdrew their support is another issue. But the second tenet was never met. Hence, the war dragged on and on before Bush finally agreed to committing more troops—otherwise known as the surge.

If Powell should endorse the Marxist Onada today, it does not negate his past. Everything I’ve been told and read indicates Powell is an intelligent and honorable man.

I do not know what your life experience has been Mobile Vulgus. But I sense you have little or no military experience. If this is true then you have no basis for declaring Powell to have been a bad general. His performance as sec state may be another matter, but I’m not sure the jury is in on that quite yet.

You know Mobile Vulgus, the dems are past masters at the politics of personal destruction. I’m not impressed with so-called pubbies who engage in the same behavior.

A lot of people have a high regard for him. Not here maybe but in the rest of the nation. He could help sway a number of undecideds. But I'm not all that confident of whom he will endorse, if anyone.

“Who cares what he thinks?”

I suspect there are a number of thinking black voters that would like to vote Obammmy but are smart enough to fear his socialist agenda. They would accept the backing of Powell as the impetus to go McC. Not all blacks are mind numbed robots, altho all to many are.

The people around here and around the country looking for someone with name recognition to tell them what to think and do. Don't ever underestimate the inability of people to think and do for themselves.

Colin Powell was the first African-American to attain high status as SOS.

His endorsement probably matters to a lot of folks who might be considering voting for Obama.
