Powell, who served as President Bush's secretary of state, is to appear on NBC's "Meet the Press," prompting some to suggest that he might use that platform to make the announcement.

Thanks for this post. I believe you are right though I have had some issues with Powell in the past. As a CJCS I haven’t been able to believe he would support BO because BO is flat out anti military.
Don't tell anybody, but I'm also homophobic and anti-choice. ]8^D
The interesting and disappointing thing about former Sec of State Powell is that his political and moral beliefs are so amorphous that one can’t be sure what he will decide.
Doesn’t seem to be a political bedrock to him that can be counted on when the rubber hits the road.
Some thought he would quit in Bush’s first administration and blast the administration on his way out. I stood up for him on that, believing his sense of duty would prevent that.
Now I don’t know what to think about him.
The bedrock for us is that we believe in having a moral and political compass that is dependable.
In 2000 Alan Keyes was a favored candidate. If Condi Rice hadn’t gotten so tangled in the backlash against the Bush administration and had been pro=life, she could have been a popular Republican candidate this year. Michael Steel is one of the good guys in our house.
If Colin Powell had committed himself to our ideals, and shown backbone in supporting them, we would have followed him anywhere. He just lacked that essential element of being able to bite the bullet and say, this is the moral and political line I will not cross.
>>Why has McCains camp already said it will be embarrassing<<
Where have they said this?
Colin Powell was the first African-American to attain high status as SOS.
His endorsement probably matters to a lot of folks who might be considering voting for Obama.
If there was any way that Powell might come out for McCain, the O campaign would be knocking down the talk of a Powell endorsement for Obama......sadly they are not.
Well said and though I look forward to his support for McCain/Palin I would not support him for a high office.
Michael Steel is an entirely different matter. I would donate, knock on doors and vote for him for any higher office, he is a good man and would be good for our country.
Yeppers, and his speaking engagements would increase %1000 as libs love to hear anyone who has anything negative to say about conservatives. Race may be his prime motivator in endorsing "That One", but greed may run a close second.
I wish that would happen, but I think Powell is more of the “Gang of 14” type if he even has any conservative tendencies left. I don’t know what’s in his head but Powell sure did not stand up for winning the war in Iraq or face down all the Democrap nonsense from Plamegate onward — Powell bears a healthy portion of responsibility for problems in recent years. Even if he could not turn the tide of the Mediascum allied with the Democrats he could have stoop up for principles, honesty, colleagues, and honor. I haven’t seen much from him in recent years to be pleased about.
Do you have evidence he will endorse McCain because it doesn’t say anything like that at the link.
We can’t win either way. If he does endorse McCain, then you’ll hear the MSM talking about how he testified that there were WMD in Iraq. If he endorsed Hussein, you’ll hear how great a man he is.

My guess is that he will not endorse anyone.
He said that he wanted to return to Govt under either McCain or Obama, just he as said he would serve under Bush or Gore in 2000.
One thing we are forgetting, he may be going on MTP to set the record straight on “W”.
I haven’t seen the movie, but he’s probably put out about they way he and the Bush Administration were portrayed.
He defended the administration on the Iraq war on MTP in June of 2007.
He went on Sean Hannity show in 2004 to dispute Bob Woodward’s book, in which Rumsfeld was probably the source,
Plan of Attack”.
The book claimed that he and Cheney were no longer on speaking terms which he disputed.
I really pray Powell is as loyal a man as I think he is.
Of all the elections to come and play such a crucial role, and don’t underestimate it, it is, an election where a true American patriot, and everything politically he is all about, to stab him in the back would be an absolute disgrace.
I’m really praying he doesn’t, I think more than anything there would just be a great sadness at the treachery. I’m pretty sure he’s a better man than that, that even if he did support Obama, out of respect he’d stay out of it.
Or their guns...
The fact that this is on the NBC program doesn’t bode well.
Going back to the Valerie Plame days...didn’t Powell also know the leaker was Armitage (sp)?
I would agree he is bitter and has an agenda..but for a retired General Officer to endorse a Marxist is something disgraceful if he does that.
Thanks!
Powell is using all of Obama’a talking points
Please elaborate.
