Toledo, Ohio, officials plan to notify "Joe the Plumber" Worzelbacher that he's out of work, following his televised criticism of Democrat Presidential candidate Barack Obama's tax plan:
A staff person with the Toledo Division of Building Inspection told On Call this afternoon that her division will contact Wurzelbacher to notify him that he can't work without a license.
"We're trying to track him down," she said.
In the meantime, the Democrat-friendly local plumbers' union is fuming.
"He has no license whatsoever with the city of Toledo," said Tom Joseph, the business manager for Local Union 50 of the Plumbers, Steamfitters and Service Mechanics, which has endorsed Obama. "He has no license in the state of Ohio. He has no contractor's license in the state of Ohio. He is not a plumber. He works for a plumber."

I already fought this battle in my city. Here, these “licenses” are used to maintain the good old boy network which I wouldn’t doubt is the way they work in Toledo. In fact, our plumbing inspector is a private plumbiung contractor who works for the city 2 days a week and for himself 3 days a week, with a full crew working full time otherwise. Conflict of interest and part of old machine politics.
Does your father hire only licensed contractors?
He would need a licensed contractor to get a load of sheet rock.
He would need a licensed contractor to sweep up around the chop saw.
Etc, etc, etc.
Are all the people who work for your father even citizens?
Ha. They exist for the sole purpose to be a revenue source for the government.

Are you saying that the plumbers don’t need to work under a supervising license at all, or that each individual plumber does not need to be licensed?

Which states have those laws, California doesn’t.
Somebody posted yesterday that the issue was that he had far exceeded the 5 year apprenticeship without taking the final test, and that is their issue. The gov’t no doubt wants their bucks for him becoming a journeyman, if that’s the issue.

I called this shot early yesterday afternoon when this crap started to come out, I’ve got a history with codes people.

That is the law in California as well, and it at least used to be the law in Ohio.
Joe works closely with, and under a licensed plumber, I would hire him in a minute.
Slight problem wildturkey; Ohio state law states that you need a license for commercial plumbing.
As has been noted, Joe the Plumber has only done residential plumbing. Thus, he does not need a license.
Also, he is working for an employer who DOES have a license.
So...what’s your beef?
I am getting plungers today and painting the following on them: “Win One For The Plummer....Flush The Democrats” Putting it next to my McCain/Palin sign and handing them out to my neighbors that have McCain signs.

The Obama ‘spread the wealth’ crowd would just take all the TV’s home before the picture could be taken....lol.
