Until a few days ago, Britain was admired and respected by the average Icelander. But the UK's moves to seize the assets of this isolated European state have provoked a backlash of feeling and escalating resentment.

"They treated us like terrorists."

Englandistan is becoming an Islamic state thanks to open-borders and political correctnees. The same people behind Obama’s campaign destroyed the UK.

Odd. I don’t find the word “Russia” anywhere in this article. Hasn’t Greenland turned to Putin to help them out in this crisis? Not good.

Presumably this author is unaware of the historical disputes between Iceland and the UK over cod and fishing rights.

“didn’t iceland basically declare bankruptcy and GB moved in to get whatever assets it could?”

- As a nation, Iceland is far from bankruptcy if I've understood things correctly. The fuss started when

“The British government seized Icelandic assets in the UK under the Anti-terrorism, Crime and Security Act 2001”

The British government argued it is “illegal” to withhold the assets of British account holders.

Icelandic economy is in a severe crisis, but probably they'll join the EU and the rest of us will rescue them if the situation gets worse.

It's OK with we. After all it is a very small country so the rest of us Europeans can afford it. My country, Sweden, has had the same kind of problem in the financial sector in the early 1990s. Even if I think we have enough of “big government” in Sweden, my opinion is that our government handled the situation in a competent manner. Iceland will probably try to copy what we did more or less (the banks that were in difficulties were first nationalized to a large degree and later on the government sold off a lot of the shares, in this way private savings were rescued and the prior stock holders had to pay, not the tax payers - which I think is fair).

- Greenland is Danish territory. Both Iceland and Denmark are NATO members.

Though granted home-rule in 1978, I thought Greenland was still a part of Denmark? It seems if they were having financial problems, they'd turn to the mother country for help first.

Iceland has been a welfare state for decades. They actually pay single moms to have babies. Bjork conceived one this way, and the “father” has had no part of the baby’s life. Sick.

Off today I have a comment on Iceland:

Iceland In Its’ Black Body Bag

Iceland’s now in its’ black body bag
Nationally their strong ancient spirits sag
England cried financial terrorism and, hell bent
They established new precedent

It was the Anti-Terrorism, Crime and Security Act of 2001
An arrow sent, bright target in the icy-sun
Applied, this law, with quickest speed
Iceland, Iceland now you bleed

It had held bags of credit default swaps
How they all have flopped
In a derivative world they had over-shopped
They couldn’t help themselves, they never stopped

Lehmans’ curse was applied you see
Settlements delayed and not paid, fiddle-dee-dee
A wide evilly destructive path was laid
In the end the Devil was paid

Socialism infects the whole Western World
Through its’ bourses Marx and Engels have swirled
As well mighty greed has twirled
Our minds now are continually whirled

Iceland was infected too
Treasury drained, like it had gone up the Wazoo
Its’ fortunes they have drained to the sea
They now say there’s nothing for ME!

The food warehouses are emptying quick
People fear getting sick
Medicines in the cabinets full
They eat fresh veggies in piles and piles
It will all be gone in a while

Holes in clothing are quick repaired
Jackets and hats, hoarded and shared
Fishermen fish where none had dared
Everyone in Reykavik’s pale and scared

Elsewhere in the world leaders stare
At Icelands’ black body bag so stark
They know the future will not be a lark
Italy, Hungary, and the Ukraine next
Even old England may follow the rest
Like little old dominoes faithfully following
Countries they are rapidly falling
Italy squalling?

Bernanke and Paulson partially bald you can see
Will lose it all and quite bare skinned will be
Neurons too will fade away
Stuttering now wins the day

Something quite speechless now comes our way
You’ve become screechless you say?!
And if we follow now dead Icelands’ course
It’s in a black body bag we’ll be
For, in the end, there’s no recourse from our dying bourse
We stay awake at night, and pray, of course

No, she mentions that further down.

With a name like "Ingibjorg Thordardottir" she's not likely to have missed what may have been Iceland's military's finest hour (at least in modern times).

Basically, they are right. This is the problem with anti-terrorist legislation. Once it is on the books, it can be used for anything - Britain seized Icelandic assets using its anti-terrorism laws, which is obviously what they were never intended for.
