Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama, if elected, should avoid the same mistakes in Afghanistan that the Soviets made more than 20 years ago, U.S. Rep. John Murtha said today.
"I told Obama's people, 'Don't get your feet too far in Afghanistan,'" Murtha, an 18-term Democrat from Johnstown, said during a wide-ranging interview with the Tribune-Review.
Obama has said he wants to send more troops to Afghanistan.

I hate to say this, but I may be agreeing with Murtha. Afghanistan is so much different than Iraq and I don’t believe there can be a military solution. I believe the key in Afghanistan is to buy them off. By that I mean, let them cultivate and grow their poppy fields and we buy the harvests. We can use what we buy for medicinal purposes or destroy it. The Afghans have no loyalty except to money. In the long run, this is how we win them over and it is cheaper. They will sell AQ down the river if they can farm their only natural resource.
Sounds like the fix is in.

Not one thing has Obama said that he really intends to carry through on. Except raise taxes on the evil rich. So, his buddy Murtha really doesn’t have much to worry about.
I’ve thought about that for a long time. We could make a fortune, help them get on their feet, and then they help us ferret out Al Qaeda.
