"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
Just as Canada and a lot of European nations begin to embrace conservatism, the U.S. is flirting with socialism. What is wrong with this picture?
If it wasn’t for the Blocheads the Tories would have had that majority.
But, all in all; not too shabby.

This is good news all around.
If a candidate with questionable credentials (0bama anyone?) can run for President without any serious investigation and vetting as to his bonafides under the Constitution, I submit that Stephen Harper should be made the GOP nominee for 2012 if Mac falls short of the finish line next month.

So if I figure this right they’re 12 votes short of a majority.
Too many people from within the U.S. still don’t realise that being a “conservative” outside of the U.S. is really very different politically than being a “U.S. conservative”, and conservatives of any country really do differ from conservatives from any other country in the world. The most conservative out of all of the world’s conservatives is the U.S. Full capitalism, throughout the entire U.S., helps to make the U.S. the most conservative country in the entire world, but it’s about to change forever, thanks to the U.S. really becoming more socialistic country, thanks to leftists in both major political parties and thanks to all leftist allies in the MSM and elsewhere! Arrgh!
“Just as Canada and a lot of European nations begin to embrace conservatism, the U.S. is flirting with socialism. What is wrong with this picture?”
Conservatism in the US lacks a popular, persuasive spokesman that people will unite behind. (By unite, I mean attract enough independents and democrats to win. I do NOT mean just unite Republicans, because that is NOT enough to win).
Usually an outgoing President would fulfill his role as party leader, lending assistance to the party’s efforts. But Bush is so toxic politically, and so communication-impaired, that he is a liability instead of an asset.
Reagan could explain the economic benefits for joe-sixpack, and therefore attracted enough independent and democrat voters to get himself elected.
It was due to his ability to communicate, educate, persuade.
The GOP lacks people of this caliber, plain and simple.
And even if one shows up, if he is a Mormon (God forbid) or possesses any one of several other imperfections, he is out of the running.
The so called conservatives are quick to disqualify just about every viable candidate, often clinging to whims about the unviable, or promising to not vote.
In conclusion, McCain is just about as weak communicating as Bush. He has little grasp of economics. He is only willing to fight like a gentleman, in what really is a dirty street brawl.
Palin is a sidewhow, and after the election is lost, will justifiably be considered a mistake, because beyond her cult of personality, she is weak due to inexperience on policy matters.
She may reinforce GOP voters, but adds little else.
In the face of this economic meltdown, any GOP candidate needed the ability to articulate sound policies, convincingly, from a position of knowledge. McCain can’t.
Among GOP political figures, Gingrich most closely matches the skills I feel would win over voters. Or Romney. Communication about economics is the key ability.
If a bunch of Canadian conservatives can overcome all the bad media leftist media threw at them, I’m sure Conservatives here can too!.
Back to Harper, while he didn’t quite get a majority, he gained 16 seats, and is only 6-7 away from majority, which means most of the time he will have a majority in the house.
Plus he can always pick up some seats in by-elections and cross walkers.
The Conservatives really slammed the Liberals into the dirt as well, with 26% of the popular vote, that is the lowest ever for the liberal party in Canada.
I watched most of it on Canadian TV. (CTV) Seems that media channel was very depressed, bitter and agry that the liberals lost so bad, despite all their hard work trying to make Harper look bad.
Craig Oliver, a CTV (Mr. turtle) senoir, was ranting right from the start of the show, and seemed drunk as he made his last pathetic attempt to hurl insults at Harper at the end of the show.
Harper is a social conservative. That was his whole reason of creating the reform party, to bring socia conservatism back into the conservative movement in Canada.
The old torys were little more than blue liberals. (in canada liberals are red while conservatives are blue.)
McCain isn’t as weak as you think. he’s being managed, just as you are by all the negative stuff being thrown at MCCain.
Harper wouldn’t have won what he did had Canadian conservatives threw up their hands when media began their attacks on him in the last two weeks of their election.
Don’t expect McCain to do all the work while you sit and watch tv. Get out and help US win. It isn’t just all about McCain.
Even if it’s just printing out some stuff about obama media hides, and leaving them in waiting rooms, public bulletin boards, etc.
I agree about conservatives outside of the US, but there are some true conservatives in Canada. Connie and Mark Fournier, owners of Free Dominion, are true conservatives. They are two of the finest people you’d ever want to know and there are a handful of others on their website that are true conservatives. Most of the true conservatives in Canada have lived inside the US at one time or another. One I know up there was a Marine in Viet Nam. Another born in Texas, lives in Alberta now. Alberta is probably the most conservative province in Canada. It’s referred to as Texas North.
