REVISITING THE ROSENBERGS - Disturbing parallels remain (sons still deny deny deny)
Los Angeles Times via Houston Chronicle ^ | Oct. 11, 2008, 9:58AM | By MICHAEL MEEROPOL and ROBERT MEEROPOL

We are the sons of Ethel and Julius Rosenberg. We were young children — 10 and 6 years old, respectively — when our parents were put to death in the electric chair at Sing Sing for passing the secret of the atomic bomb to the Soviet Union.

For many years after that, we believed our parents to be wholly innocent of the charges against them. But over the years, and especially as further evidence became available at the end of the Cold War, we began to question that belief.

Now, 55 years after their execution, two recent revelations in our parents' case have again rekindled fierce debate about their culpability. But in our opinion, these disclosures — the release of our aunt's sworn statements to a grand jury and a surprise new admission by our parents' co-defendant — have obscured both the essence and the essential lessons of the Rosenberg case.

Still blaming the US government and now their mother's brother as well. Everyone is in on the Conspiracy except the Rosenbergs, even when they had to admit now that Papa WAS a Communist spy.

Glad to see the comments show zero sympathy for the Commie scum. Two deaths richly deserved.

Their parents were obviously guilty, but given how the U.S. government let Ted Hall go free as a bird, they probably have an argument that their parents should have been executed.

Just because he was a Communist spy doesn’t mean he spied for the Communists!

All these two silly assed geriatric red diaper babies have to do is read the Venona public transcripts to finally acknowledge the full depth of their parent espionage.

Now they continue to equivocate. F’ em.

Talk about lousy timing !!!

If only the Rosenbergs had been part of a communist terror group of spoiled rich white kids during the 60s instead of just garden-variety communists during late 40’s/early 50’s, they be heading up departments at our prestigious universities, writing books and radicalizing a major city’s educational system.

He might have even been Chicago’s Man of the Year! But, no, due to such terrible timing they were executed. Just damn.

Isn’t it amazing how far we’ve come in 55 years? Downhill all the way.

Michael Meeropol is chairman of the economics department at Western New England College in Springfield, Mass.; Robert Meeropol is the founder and executive director of the Rosenberg Fund for Children

Ah yes, now one kid is a red diaper economics prof, and the other funds "children of targeted progressive activists and targeted activist youth."

Morton Sobell, slimebucket apologists for the treasonous stalinist Rosenbergs, has finally told us the truth...as if we didn’t already know.

If the Rosenbergs had lived in Chicago in the late 20th century, Obama would have probably taken up with them as well. They may not have been as sufficiently anti-American as the detestable Ayers, but Obama would have included them in his sh*tcargo politburo....

How's that again?

This is all a bunch of crap: the Rosenberg's were guilty of treason, and the crime of treason doesn't require that you steal the secret to the atom bomb before the death penalty is called for.

Hell, drawing a map to Los Alamos for the Soviets should do it!

What I was questioning was your statement that "they (the Rosenbergs' sons) would probably have an argument that their parents should have been executed."

Seemed an unusual thing to say.

Ping.

The Venona Transcripts settled beyond any doubt that the Rosenberg’s guilt. Their guilt was further corroborated by their KGB handler who went public with his dealings with them in the late 1990s.

The only people who still believe in the Rosenberg’s innocence who aging, left-wing academics who also pine for a return of Communism.

Is this the wrong time to bring up that Bill Clinton pardoned two other members of the Weather Underground as he was leaving office?

Some commentators have, in essence, said that neither this lack of evidence nor these inconsistencies matter. ''The Rosenbergs were Soviet spies, and not minor ones either,'' wrote Ronald Radosh in the Los Angeles Times on Sept. 17.

Radosh and Milton noted three decades ago certain aspects of the prosecution's case against the Rosenbergs were problematical, but still concluded that Julius and Ethel were guilty of atomic espionage and that the verdicts rendered were justified by the evidence.

What is striking here is that the Meeropols, after a half century of self-delusion, finally admitted that their parents weren't innocent, after all.

Mildred Gillars, aka Axis Sally wasn’t even charged with espionage and she was convicted of treason in WWII for a radio drama she broadcast.

American born William Joyce, aka Lord Haw Haw, was also convicted of treason, only it was the British who charged and sentenced him. To death. There is belief that if he’d been tried in America, he wouldn’t have been executed (and he is likely to have been a US citizen, unable to commit “treason” against England while in Germany).

The Rosenbergs don’t care about how Lord Haw Haw may have been “unjustly” executed.

Their parents were a contributing factor to the arms race, whether there was “one” piece of the puzzle, or something that confirmed Russian plans, it was stil an intent.

Unless their “no goodnik” UNCLE was the lone traitor. Are they trying to make the case that he should have been executed?
