Palin Drops Puck at Flyer’s Game Receives Mixed Reaction

by Shushannah Walshe

PHILADELPHIA –-

Sarah Palin has become known as “The Most Famous Hockey Mom in America” for her constant referral to herself on the stump as “just a hockey mom.” This evening, she met that title head on by dropping the first puck of the Philadelphia Flyers hockey season in their opener with the New York Rangers.

A carpet was laid down and Palin, dressed in a beige trench, walked on to the ice joined by her daughters Willow and Piper. The GOP Vice-Presidential nominee said at an earlier fundraiser that she would stop some of the booing from the rowdy Philadelphia fans by putting her seven year old daughter, Piper in a Flyers jersey. She said, “How dare they boo Piper!”

Her secret weapon may have worked. The crowd in this staunchly Democratic city –visited today by Barack Obama—gave Palin mixed reviews. There were audible boos over the very loud music and some in the crowd had their thumbs down, but there were also many people clapping and cheering the GOP Vice-Presidential nominee.

I love and admire Palin, too.

I guess we will just have to disagree here. No hard feelings.

Yes, that it was almost equal in reaction is actually positive considering the low life behavior and history of the Philly crowds—
They are brutal. Pelting Santa with snow balls at an Eagles game, cheering as Micheal Irvin is carried off on a stretcher, ect...these “fans” are vicious.
To get a 50/50 reaction is a big win in my book!

Philly fans stink... Have her drop the pick at a more GOP friendly city. Or at the very least, a city with even a bit of class.

As a native of Detroit (transplanted to California), I couldn't agree with you more.

Red Wings fans would have never booed her! Go hockeytown!

I saw the game live, and the n00b disruptor is wrong.

Tonight is like last night. full of trolls and disruptors.

Just a bunch of loud mouth know-it-alls looking to stir things up.

Ignore them if you can.

I’m glad she went. the mixed reaction was expected and par for the course.

From April, 2008:

More cheers than boos were heard at National Park tonight when President Bush tossed the first ceremonial pitch for the season opener of the Washington Nationals, playing host to the Braves, at the new home park of the Washington club.

After both the Braves and Nationals were introduced on the field and Denyce Graves sang the National Anthem, the two teams cleared the field. Nationals Manager Manny Acta, third baseman Ryan Zimmerman and owner Ted Lerner came back on. Then Bush emerged from the Nationals’ dugout to throw the first pitch.

He wore a red Nationals jacket and dark slacks.

“It seemed there were more cheers than boos, but not by much,’’ the pool reporter reported tonight. The president “walked quickly to the mound and almost immediately, with a high delivery, threw a high fastball that would have been a ball to anyone other than Yao Ming.

“Acta rose to catch it, manager and president quickly shook hands and Bush was waving to the crowd as he walked back into the dugout. The crowd reaction after the pitch was decidedly mixed.

McCain won’t win or lose one vote because of this,

Sarah Palin likely won admiration and respect from many fans for having the guts to do what she did.

In other words, the McCain/Palin ticket could very well WIN some 'undecided' votes... but won't lose any votes they weren't gonna get anyway.

It was a smart move on Palin's part.

It doesn’t make my description of the video innacurate.

“To me, I’d rather she went and did this before a more friendly audience. That would be a good thing. Instead we’re stuck with an embarrassing video clip.”

Embarrassing to whom?

As far as I can tell, the ceremonial parts of these events should be where you act like an adult, and show some pride in your team, and city by acting as such.

These “adults” did just the opposite and only embarrass themselves.

I agree, but the worst type of dem is a working class dem, who doesn’t even have the intellect to argue their points beyond the ‘republicans are for the rich’ slogans.

Philly is a heavy black town, too, and that’s breaking for Obama 97%+.

Philly fans, no matter what the sport, are lowlifes. Common knowledge. Many other towns would have shown class.

Never count on Philly fans to show class. :-)

That Santa thing was BS 'He was even laughing . It was in good fun by the fans who during the pitiful Eagle times needed some fun

Makes a good media story

I see it as an embarrassing video clip, not a credibility builder, but maybe you’re right.

I agree, but Philly fans have been embarassing themselves for decades. This isn’t new or news.
