Palin Drops Puck at Flyers Game Receives Mixed Reaction
by Shushannah Walshe
PHILADELPHIA -
Sarah Palin has become known as The Most Famous Hockey Mom in America for her constant referral to herself on the stump as just a hockey mom. This evening, she met that title head on by dropping the first puck of the Philadelphia Flyers hockey season in their opener with the New York Rangers.
A carpet was laid down and Palin, dressed in a beige trench, walked on to the ice joined by her daughters Willow and Piper. The GOP Vice-Presidential nominee said at an earlier fundraiser that she would stop some of the booing from the rowdy Philadelphia fans by putting her seven year old daughter, Piper in a Flyers jersey. She said, How dare they boo Piper!
Her secret weapon may have worked. The crowd in this staunchly Democratic city visited today by Barack Obamagave Palin mixed reviews. There were audible boos over the very loud music and some in the crowd had their thumbs down, but there were also many people clapping and cheering the GOP Vice-Presidential nominee.

A mixed reaction? For a conservative Republican in Philly? At a sporting event?
It’s a miracle!!! Palin was a hit!!
Oh course , you hate McCain ahd want him to Lose !
Complain Insult Complain Insult !
McCain won’t win or lose one vote because of this, so in that respect it is fluff.
If a recent signup sees that the crowd wasn’t enthused by Palin, and a long time member sees it as a largely positive reaction to Palin, there is a disconnect there. To me, it’s clear that to describe the crowd reaction as ‘mised’ is putting a happy face on it. She flopped in Philly.
To me, I’d rather she went and did this before a more friendly audience. That would be a good thing. Instead we’re stuck with an embarrassing video clip.
Not a big deal, in the end, but I wish it didn’t exist.
Believe whatever makes you happy. I’m not sure I’d want a crowd of Philly libs cheering for me anyway.
Bash Bash Bash
Whine Whine Whine
If your so concerned go out and work for the Campaign rather than sititing around and arm chair quarterback.
its a preseason game and the place was empty and the seats are Cheap so it full of low lifes .
Sorry. I don’t agree. She is a gutsy lady and able to take it to their turf.
I will say, in good faith, I agree 100% with your first post.
I’m half of the mind, Obama is the actual anti-Christ.
Nostradamos’ “Mabus”, seems a whole lot like Obama, as seen from France 500 years ago.
I’m a bit of a Palin fan. Hope you don’t mind I tend to stick up for her sort of strongly. :)
I don’t hate McCain. I want him to win (in fact I poisted a long post the other day saying I expected him to win about 290 electoral votes), but it didn’t keep me from having clarityu on the state of the race.
I’m not complaining or insulting. I’m just saying that the video doesn’t show an enthusiastic welcome for Palin. Not even a ‘mixed’ reaction.
My point was that Philly fans are usually lowlifes. I am neither bashing nor whining.
Why gee n00b, thanks!
The only way to win over hearts and minds is to get close enough to WIN those hearts and minds.
And a Flyers game is the best place to start. What's the benefit of going to a game where you already got the votes. That's a waste of precious campaign time.
Palin did the right thing by showing she has the guts, and the integrity, to walk into the lions den of a Democrat-worshiping city.
Methinks she will win over MORE hearts and minds at the Wachovia Center from people who will think, "Wow, she really IS a hockey mom. Good for her."
And an intelligent, brave woman, and a looker to boot.
Right you are... Philly fans famously booed Santa Claus at a Monday Night football game.
This McCain campaign really does look like super amateur hour.
Back to disrupt and insult again, I see.
Did you get bored at DU?
No problem. I appreciate the good faith. Maybe I sound a little nuts calling him the anti-Christ, but some very creepy signs point that way. Not the kind of thing I go around saying at work though.
I’m a Palin fan too. She can handle a lot worse than jeers from drunk hockey fans.
I like it:) That is one gusty woman:) Bet you would never see Obama do something like that. He has someone else do it for him the coward.
Exactly! And if McCain/Palin get 50% of the Democrat vote in and around Philly, the McCain campaign will do very well on Nov. 4.
Which proves why it was a good move for Sarah Palin to walk into the mouth of the lions den in Democrat-worshiping Philly... and show her guts and moxy.
Bravo, Sarah Palin. She has more guts than the other three candidates combined.
We’ll get along just fine. :)
