After days of watching in silence, McCain calms the crowd at his Minnesota town meeting.

“I want everyone to be respectful. And let’s make sure we are, because that’s the way politics is done in America.”

Tells one supporter who says he’s scared of an Obama presidency: “I have to tell you, he is a decent person, a person that you do not have to be scared [of] as president of the United States.”

After a woman calls Obama “an Arab,” McCain interrupts to say: “No, ma’am. He is a decent family man, citizen

I am with you — there is something going to break! I saw the word citizen and thought what a an odd remark to make. It seemed out of context in that sentence.

Didn’t know until yesterday that the Senate took up McCain’s citizenship and declared he was a citizen and eligible to run, BUT not a word about Obama.

I think he knows.

He does not want strife with President Hussein (and his press) when he returns to the Senate.

McCain probably is watching his legacy for the liberal history writers, who have been on TV saying “this is unlike the McCain we once knew”.

Buckley endorsing Hussein was probably the last straw for McCain. All his other Republican friends in the press like Brooks, Noonan, Will, have endorsed Obama. Chrissy, who McCain used to banter with constantly was chastising him as a horrible person today.

McCain wants his reputation back.

And Husseins liberal press are the only ones who can give it to him, since they are in charge of history, policy, and electing our reps.

If all those scenarios in your post come to pass under a Barack Obama administration, I see a civil war coming to America that will make the first one look like a Sunday afternoon in Disneyland in comparison.

I can definitely envision some Southern states trying to secede over the course of the next four years.

Is McCain saying that Arabs are not decent family men?

The folks are angry. Supporters are screaming. The markets are tanking. There are more scandals brewing than one can keep track of. If Mac knows one of them is about to expose Barry, would he lead the attack and start ranting ala Howard Dean? No. He'd play the gentleman card. Because if Barry is busted, there are going to be riots in the streets. And all along Mac was calm, steady and presidential. Just my hunch.

Worked a lot of campaigns, have seen a lot of comments, but those comments looked programmed. Like Miss Didi, I believe something is up.

McCain is up +41 in OK and Obama just ran an ad on OK TV. Anybody want to talk about a dumb campaign that is throwing away money? Putting an ad on local OK TV is a total waste of money and will send more votes to McCain and Inhofe. We have signs around Norman for a Dem who is running for State Rep with McCain/Palin signs on top of his sign. Yard after yard of Democrats in my precinct have all Dem signs except their sign for McCain/Palin.

How is McCain telling someone in a crowd not to be afraid of Obama a ringing endorsement? Whether an Obama “plant” or not, the media is watching — from what I read, McCain added something like “I believe I can do a much better job” than Obama (or similar quote).

Is this great? No. But devastating? I don’t think so. Lots of people watching TV out there around the country are not so invested in this election as the hardcore supporters on both sides, following every website and radio show nonstop. A fair number would think a nasty remark about Obama to be over the top and way too distasteful.

All McCain can do is pay attention to what he’s hearing and then react. I don’t think McCain’s comments on this will make much difference one way or the other.

And none of the arabs I know whether they be christian or muslim, don’t believe that. There are parts of the bible that most christians do not follow because they are a bit antiquated, the same is true for other religions as well.

Well, Obama isn’t an Arab. I have no idea if he’s a decent family man. But, he isn’t an Arab.

I think he has an Islamic background and upbringing, but so do Pakistanis, and they’re not Arabs either. Arab isn’t a nation, but Arabic is a language. An Arab is one whose first language is Arabic.

Giving up on McCain is not synonymous with giving up on America. Obama will be painful if he wins, but it will not be the apocalypse that it is being made out to be. If you don’t believe me, just ask McCain. He’ll tell you right to your face if given the chance and then exploit it to show what a “maverick” he is. Heck, there isn’t even a reason to be scared of Obama.......just ask McCain.

Not easily, McCain has been running hard for a long time now.

And with the credit crisis, he sees now that Republicans did not get out in front and blame the Dems in time, (as usual.)

He sees the impossibility of it all, like most Republicans in office who do not fight....because they know where their bread is buttered.....the press.

So he is beginning his farewell....trying to be gracious to Hussein. And making sure he is not written about badly for the future.

It’s sad that you take a couple of words by McCain so personally. He did not say Obama would be a better President than himelf, did he? He did not make the kind of ridiculous gaffe Joe Biden makes.

McCain is being himself. He tried to settle things down a little by saying people should not be afraid of Obama. Then he apparently followed it up by saying he thought he (McCain) would make a much better President.

I agree that it would be quite fun to see McCain come out blasting Obama up one side and down the other about everything that is so very wrong or bad about him, but it would not be a very good idea to do so in a venue where the media is front and center and what McCain says is blaring on all the MSM stations within minutes.

Believe it or not, the whole country is not so focused on this election as are the people on FR or similar sites on either side of the fight. The millions in the middle do not want to see what appears to be zealotry, trust me.

I do not think you should consider yourself thrown under the bus here.
