After days of watching in silence, McCain calms the crowd at his Minnesota town meeting.

“I want everyone to be respectful. And let’s make sure we are, because that’s the way politics is done in America.”

Tells one supporter who says he’s scared of an Obama presidency: “I have to tell you, he is a decent person, a person that you do not have to be scared [of] as president of the United States.”

After a woman calls Obama “an Arab,” McCain interrupts to say: “No, ma’am. He is a decent family man, citizen

“Shows McCain would be a lousy POTUS. His guts are only against his own party.”

Because his own party is what is safe to attack. Kind of like people who are so very respectful and courteous all day long to strangers, then come home and are abusive A holes to their own family. That reminds me of RINOs in general come to think of it.

Calm down—the vast majority of “the base” are not voting for McCain, we are voting for Palin or against Hussein. That’s okay, not ideal, but okay. We are casting our votes in the best interest of the country.

He is playing to the middle—the moderates and swing voters. I think it’s a good cop, bad cop thing. Stay the course!

I like John McCain. He is an American hero.

but he just threw me under the bus. What about those of us who fear Obama ? not because we think he is a terrorist. not because we are racist. John McCain just lumped us all together and threw us away.

we fear him because we are at war with an enemy who wants to destroy us. We remember 9/11/01. We dont believe Obama has what it takes to keep us safe.

"Cannot be on the attack all the time while talking live -- that is why you have ads and surrogates. "

When the head of the ticket's OWN words are the precise opposite of whet the ads and the surrogates are saying, you find that to be useful and constructive? The key to victory?

The very best you can hope for is that the voters will be confused.

McCain just, personally, publicly, gave a much stronger endorsement to 0bama than Bill and Hillary Clinton have.

Yeah, that is goig to help him win.

I guess Arabs are not decent family men

Some are, Like Danny Thomas, Massad Ayoob, Jamie Farr (the guy who played "Corporal Max Klinger"), and of course our own FReeper "jveritas", and many others... then again there are the ones who think it's fine to beat your wives with a stick. that would most likly include Barak H. Obama Sr, except that he was not an Arab, or if he had some Arab "blood" it couldn't have been much.

Agreed. The stakes are much higher than having a RINO as President. Given RINO or ZERO, I'll choose the RINO.

jddqr: “Stand up for Conservatism people, dammit!”

You just don’t get it! We are going to get McCain or Obama...PERIOD. That is what’s going to happen, and a couple thousand FReeper votes staying home or switching to some 3rd party pipe dream isn’t going to change a thing.

I’ll vote for McCain, and that’s a far better stand for Conservatism than what you’re advocating. Obama is not even American (yeah, he’s a citizen, but his politics are 3rd world). I’ll rather try to avert the immediate disaster and live to fight again tomorrow.

Don’t surrender. Vote McCain!

OH don't get me wrong!! I will be putting my big X by McCain for PALIN!!!!!! NOT MCCAIN!!! BUT his chances of winning now are decreased by a larger margin because of his stupid " OSAMA ENDORSEMENT!!

Think of it... he said " IF OBAMA is President, we don't have to be scared"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!THANKS JOHN MC! If Obama gets in.... and it looks more and more like that......we will NEVER HAVE ANOTHER ELECTION that will be free!!! Trust me!...and we will have JOHNNY to thank!

I just wrote the most passionate letter to a politician in my life. I could care less what he thinks about it. The man brags about standing up to his own party and reaching across the aisle.

John, you asked us to stand up and fight for you at the convention. Today, you told us to sit down and shut up.

Jackass.

I’m not voting for McCain, but I respect him more for this. Knuckle-dragging discourse should have no place in these campaigns. We are men not monkeys.
