Senator Charles Schumer says he feels confident that the Dems will have a super majority - 60 senators - after this election. Let's not allow this to happen! A super majority can stop any judicial picks by John McCain, and IF (horrors) Barack Obama becomes president, his judicial picks would breeze right through.
As an example, I just heard a tape on the radio where Senator McCain said that Justice Thomas was a good pick, and Senator Obama said he would not have picked him.
Please support the Republicans in the senate race, even if they are not from your state. Maybe you can do some research and pick a candidate(s) who will be in the senate race who is your favorite, and help them out by calling a national talk show (or a local talk show if it's your state), contributing to their campaign, writing a letter to the editor, and/or volunteering for their campaign, etc..
Do what you can to help out, but kindly do something. IMO, the judicial nominations is the most important issue of all, because it affects all of the other issues, like pro-life, the sanctity of marriage, so-called "Fairness" doctrine, terrorism, 2nd Amendment, immigration, eminent domain - everything. Activist judges do what they please, so getting originalist judges on the bench is paramount.
I ask FRiends to tell us which candidate(s) you like, and why, which would be useful for calling a talk show.
Ok. You convinced me! This election is very much about the Supreme Court.
Thanks!

I don’t see a supermajority for the Democrats, even in my worst nightmares. I’m expecting them to pick up 5, maybe 6 seats. But they’ll lose one when they boot Lieberman from their caucus. Congress is harder, maybe a pickup of 12 to 15 at the outside. All depends on how the Democrats who won traditionally Republican seats in 2006 do in their first run for reelection.

Thank YOU!
Thanx for the pix.
“I dont see a supermajority for the Democrats, even in my worst nightmares.”
I hope you’re correct, but I don’t leave anything to chance. This is too important.
Also, my goals are higher than simply stopping the Dems from becoming the supermajority - I’m aiming for the Republican U.S. senators to become the majority again.
If the Republican U.S. senators become the majority again, they will regain control of the Judicial Committee, and then more conservative nominees will be allowed to the floor for an up or down vote.
It won't happen this year.
“It won’t happen this year.”
I know it’s a long shot, but it is possible.
But in any event, let’s work hard so that the Dems don’t get that supermajority. Also, let’s work toward gaining some Senatorial seats this election, so that the Republicans will have a better chance at a majority after the 2010 election, so they get the Judiciary committee again.
Also, any strong motivation to go to the polls on Election Day to vote for ANY Republican gets Republicans to vote for other Republicans while they’re there.
Let’s not forget the Republican U.S. senators on Nov. 4 bump!
If we do, the Senate will be filibuster proof.
